World of WarCraft movie

Sam Raimi had a few decisions to make this year, thanks to a Spider-Man movie franchise reboot that raised questions about whether or not his "WarCraft" movie would become his new priority. It looks like Disney's "Oz: The Great and Powerful" won out in the end, however, meaning "WarCraft" won't be getting his full attention in the new year.

World of WarCraft

A lot of people take vacation in December, traveling to far off lands to get away from their everyday lives. Many of those people, it seems, will be spending the chilly months in the varied lands of Azeroth, and the next expansion pack for "World of WarCraft," "Cataclysm," is scheduled for release on December 7. How kind of Blizzard to wait until all the major holiday releases are out before dropping the "WoW" bomb on all of us!

WoW Pets

The Pandaren Monk started as an April Fool's joke for "WarCraft 3" and has since grown to become apart of the "WarCraft" canon. The latest appearance of the martial arts-saavy, panda-esque race was as an in-game pet in "World of WarCraft" (pictured on the right). The Pandaren Monk was sold for $10 in Blizzard's online store, with half of the proceeds going directly to the Make-A-Wish charity. The end result? 1.1 million bucks were donated to the charity. That's a lot.

World of Warcraft

Don't expect Sam Raimi to immediately jump onto his "Warcraft" film just because he pulled out of "Spider-Man 4." Robert Rodat's script for the big-screen adaptation may not be ready for him yet, and even if it were, Raimi may have other priorities in mind.

Speaking with MTV News, director Sam Raimi dropped some interesting info regarding his upcoming "WarCraft" movie, saying that the screenwriting process has just begun:

"We want to be really faithful to the game...to the Horde and the Alliance and the mythology that takes place in the game, and the archetypes that the game presents. I think we would try and find touchstones within the game to make it accurate and true and choose one or some of the lands that are portrayed in the game with as much accuracy and authenticity as possible.

"But we would have our writer, Robert Rodat, really craft an original story within that world that feels like a 'World of WarCraft' adventure. Only obviously it's very different 'cause it's expanded and translated into the world of a motion picture."

Just 'cause you're a movie star and have "rugged good looks" doesn't mean you're not a giant nerd. Take, for example, Brandon Routh. You may remember him as Superman, pictured above. Anyway, he was in attendance at Comic-Con promoting "Dead of Night" and "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World" and we had a few moments to speak to him about, well, movie stuff.

But his love of "World of WarCraft" would not be denied. Hell, check out the shirt he's rocking in the video below. It's this one! So, of course, we asked him about it, and he basically talked about his desire to take part in Sam Raimi's movie:

Chalking this one up as what will probably be the most shocking news of the week, Sam Raimi, director of "Spider-Man," "Evil Dead" and, most recently, "Drag Me To Hell," will be helming a new project based on "World of WarCraft."

Variety is reporting that the movie, currently titled "WarCraft," will be live-action and will be produced by Charles Roven, of "The Dark Knight" fame.
