Diagonal 20-plus yard rushes made their Bo Jackson-sized return this week with the release of "Tecmo Bowl Throwback," a faithful Xbox LIVE Arcade update to 1993's "Tecmo Super Bowl." Chances are you remember the original, but does this version's mechanics still dazzle? In short, no.

Tecmo's remastered edition of "Tecmo Super Bowl" now has a release date set for at least one of its platforms, even if PlayStation 3 owners still have some waiting to do. Microsoft dated "Tecmo Bowl Throwback" for April 28th on Xbox Live Arcade in a new press release, and Tecmo confirmed the news, but they also categorized their PlayStation Network launch date as TBD.
"'Tecmo Bowl Throwback' is out on XBLA April 28th, 2010," Tecmo posted on their official Twitter account. "TBD for PSN."

"Tecmo Bowl Throwback" was already an official release in the eyes of the ESRB, but now Tecmo publicly considers it to be legitimate as well. The tricked-out remastered edition of "Tecmo Super Bowl" for the XBLA and PSN will launch this spring if everything goes as planned, and sports gaming nostalgia will reign supreme as we all split time between it and the new "NBA Jam."

"Tecmo Bowl Throwback" may not be an official title yet as far as Tecmo is concerned, but the ESRB definitely knows about it. An anonymous source leaked some details in January about the rumored PSN and XBLA release, and now the ESRB has done the same. Their entry may not be as scandalously written as the "Mature" justification for "Dead or Alive: Paradise," but it does describe the cheerleading attire we should be prepared to see.

EA Sports' "NBA Jam" revival has already championed one classic sports franchise for 2010. Now it looks like Tecmo will follow suit and revisit their old SNES title "Tecmo Super Bowl," and the tricked-out update, "Tecmo Bowl Throwback," could launch as soon as this spring for the PSN and XLBA.
