In a first-person shooter, there's one thing that matters most: The gun in your hand.
You're staring at the damn thing for the vast majority of the game, and just about every objective requires that you use it in some way. You would think that, given the importance of the gun, every first-person shooter would make it their business to ensure that your gun is as good as it can be. But a surprisingly number of them fail miserably, leaving you with facile, impotent weapons that feel more like squirt guns than devices of war.
"Resistance 3" is not one of these first-person shooters. It happens to be home to the best weapons arsenal I've ever used in a first-person shooter, and it's a damn fun game because of it.
NOTE: This review is focused solely on the campaign portion of "Resistance 3." There is a significant multiplayer portion which was unplayable in natural settings before launch, so impressions on the multiplayer will come later this week.

There have been mounting rumors lately that Sony would drop the price of the PlayStation 3 – it was a pretty safe bet at this point, two years since such a cut – but today during their GamesCom presentation, the company officially announced that the price of the 160gb PlayStation 3 would lower by 50 bucks to $249.99. That wasn't the only announcement, though, as Sony also premiered some new PlayStation Vita titles and even a new PlayStation Portable (really).

There are plenty of people who enjoyed "Resistance: Fall of Man." There are admittedly fewer who enjoyed "Resistance 2." But it's safe to say I am in neither of those groups. They're not bad games, mind you, but they never felt like anything much more than passable shooters. Shooters attempting to match the quality of games like "Halo" and "Call of Duty," but never quite making it.
So it was with trepidation that I began playing the first few levels of "Resistance 3" on a preview build Sony sent over. And guess what? I'm suddenly on board.

"Resistance 3" looms in the early portion of this fall's onslaught of game releases, and for fans of the franchise, you're probably getting anxious to play the game. There was a single-player demo released last month – if you purchased the "Battle Los Angeles" Blu-ray – but if you're excited to dive in to online multiplayer, Sony says your wait is almost over. Early access to the "Resistance 3" open beta begins on August 4.

If you just can't wait to start tearing apart Chimera in Insomniac's upcoming "Resistance 3," there is a way you can get your hands on a bit of the game early. Yes, the developer is releasing a demo – and even better – it's actually a hefty thirty minutes long; that's the good news. The bad news – unless you happen to be really into the flick – is that you'll have to buy a copy of "Battle: Los Angeles" on Blu-ray in order to play it.

Virtual warriors will once again be taking the fight to the invading Chimera later this year when Insomniac Games releases the third chapter in its alternate history alien invasion series, "Resistance 3." The studio held its community day in Los Angeles yesterday, where it revealed that the upcoming sequel will include support for stereoscopic 3-D displays and Sony's PlayStation Move motion controller (and the Sharp Shooter gun mount). Why? Because the community demanded it.

For "Resistance 2," developer Insomniac Games went a little bit crazy on the multiplayer side of things. Matches could support up to 60 players, depending on the map, a console record until the 256-player shooter "MAG" was released. For the upcoming "Resistance 3," Insomniac decided to scale things back a bit, slashing the match counts down to a maximum of 16 players.

UPDATE: Added the live action teaser for "Resistance 3" down below, as posted on Insomniac's official YouTube page.
For a series that's always been about a furry hero and his robot pal, it's kinda surprising "Ratchet & Clank" didn't jump on the co-op bandwagon sooner. Seems that Insomniac Games is making up for lost time, though, as they've just announced a co-op-centric installment to the long-running franchise: "Ratchet and Clank: All 4 One." The game, scheduled for 2011, will allow for 4-player online co-op, as well as same-system drop-in, drop-out.

DC Unlimited has teamed up with Insomniac Games to release action figures based on their two popular video game franchises: "Ratchet & Clank" and "Resistance." The toys are available at local comics retailers, as well as major online retailers like Amazon.

Some carefully planned in-movie marketing may have given away some unofficial details about "Resistance 3" this week. A snapshot shows a billboard left at a recent filming location for the Aaron Eckhart and Michelle Rodriguez movie "Battle: Los Angeles." If this billboard is actually being used to advertise the next "Resistance" sequel, it's a fair bet that the game's launch will correlate with that film's February 2011 release date. Furthermore, the logo appears to show a silhouetted Statue of Liberty in the middle, indicative of some New York City involvement in the game.
