Last night, the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences held its 14th annual Interactive Achievement Awards in Las Vegas. They're a little like the Spike TV Video Game Awards, only with more respect and less misfired attempts at entertaining the gaming community. The top prize of the night, Game of the Year, went to BioWare's "Mass Effect 2," though Rockstar Games' "Red Dead Redemption" had a better overall showing, with five awards earned.

The Metacritic rating of 87 attached to Quantic Dream's "Heavy Rain" belies the wide disparity between actual review scores for that particular game. A beautiful game which was itself in many ways an interactive movie, detractors took issue with a number of elements, everything from basic production-type stuff like voice acting to more abstract concerns with the game's unique, largely contextual control scheme. Everyone seemed to think it was interesting, but no one could agree on whether that was a good or a bad thing. Now we're going to get to see if Quantic Dream's efforts translate well across mediums with a film treatment from one of the top names out there: David Milch.

"Heavy Rain" support for PlayStation Move may have put the brakes on DLC plans for Quantic Dream's dark series of subtle actions and plot twists. SCEA is ready to push forward with the game's new update, though, and they'll unleash it via a patch and subsequent demo beginning on September 22.

I'll fully admit that I seem to be in the minority when it comes to "Heavy Rain," and that plenty of people loved the innovative adventure game. Those people will probably be thrilled to know that Quantic Dream, the developer behind the game, is already hard at work on two new projects.

Quantic Dream managed to get one episode of its "Chronicles" DLC out for "Heavy Rain" with "The Taxidermist," but creator David Cage has revealed that further episodes were de-prioritized due to a push for Move control integration.

Quantic Dream co-CEO David Cage said that he might have a "Heavy Rain" announcement regarding the PlayStation Move soon, and that announcement appears to be that his game will adopt motion control support later this year. "Heavy Rain" was original designed for the Move, but since it beat Sony's new peripherals to stores by the better part of a year, that command system wasn't integrated at launch. The game and the Move will reportedly be reunited, however, by the end of 2010.

If you're looking to avoid spoilers about "Heavy Rain," you may want to stop reading right here. For everyone else, you may recall that I had some issues with the game, which I laid out in my review. The story was often problematic, featuring characters that acted seemingly without reason or sense, and I felt that one scene in particular exemplified this better than most: The sex scene.

"Heavy Rain" pre-orderers already got a crack at "Heavy Rain Chronicles: Episode One - The Taxidermist," but Sony will release it into the wild on April 1st to everyone else. "The Taxidermist" stars Madison Paige, who remains fully clothed this time around, as best I can tell. It's set before the events in "Heavy Rain" and provides some backstory for those who have finished the core experience.

A shortage of "Heavy Rain" discs in the U.K. isn't the only oversight related to the game that's come to light this week. It's now been joined by leading lady Madison Page's birthday suit. A glitch somewhere in the code reportedly allowed a user to walk around uncovered as Madison after activating a sequence he didn't want to see. When he reloaded his previous save file, "Heavy Rain" left him in control of a character with no clothes.

PSN problems for the PlayStation 3 aren't the only ones plaguing Sony this week. Europe may have gotten a special "Heavy Rain" PS3 bundle, but the number of individual games shipped to the U.K. appears to have fallen short of demand. Sony has now acknowledged the problem, though, pledging to remedy the situation.
