If you have ever wondered what it would be like to play a round of Halo: Reach multiplayer inside one of Resident Evil's most recognizable locations ForgeHub member Cryptic Sin has one hell of a treat for you. He has created a faithfully-scaled version of Spencer Mansion using nothing but the map tools found in Halo: Reach. Read more...

Fans continue to wait with bated breath for 343 Industries to fire its first shot in the post-Bungie campaign to keep Microsoft's "Halo" franchise moving. There will presumably (hopefully) be an announcement at this year's E3, but the new franchise lead has been busy preparing some things to tide us all over in the interim. A press release from Microsoft reveals today that it all starts with a new update to "Halo Waypoint" -- the Xbox Live Arcade-based portal to all things "Halo" -- this week on Friday, April 15.

Earlier this week some leaked images floated out purporting to be pulled from the upcoming, then-unannounced "Halo: Reach" map pack, Defiant. Now there's been an official announcement and Microsoft's Major Nelson has confirmed it: three new multiplayer maps are coming to "Halo: Reach" next month in a pack that is indeed called "Defiant."

As you Xbox 360-playing readers come down off of the high of last weekend's Double XP event honoring the new "First Strike" map pack for "Call of Duty: Black Ops," you're probably looking for something new to play. And though you may be tempted to break out the old "Halo: Reach" disc, you might want to hold off for a bit as the next map pack, which may or may not be called "Defiant," could be announced before you know it.

One of the biggest mysteries facing the video game-loving world today is what's next for Bungie. The "Halo" developer stepped away from the franchise that made them following the release of "Halo Reach" last year. They're now working on a top-secret project for Activision. Now, Twitter user supererogatory has discovered a handful of domain registrations and copyright filings that could point to whatever it is the developer is working on right now.

Looking at the release list at the beginning of 2010, you could surmise that this year was going to be a safe one. "Safe" in the sense that we wouldn't be seeing publishers taking a lot of big risks with new franchises, sticking to the warm, comfortable waters of established franchises.
What you probably wouldn't have guessed was how much effort publishers would put into designing sequels that were head and shoulders above their predecessors. Sure, there were underwhelming cop-outs ("Crackdown 2" and "Fable 3" spring to mind), but there were also classics.
In and among these sequels, a few new and awesome IPs managed to poke their heads in, many of them coming from tiny indie developers.
But you know all about that. After all, you lived it. And so did I. Here were my 10 favorite games of 2010.

The Noble Map Pack DLC for "Halo: Reach" won't available until November 30, but Bungie's put together a trailer for Anchor 9, Breakpoint and Tempest that you can watch at your leisure between now and the Tuesday after Thanksgiving.

Players who do things Bungie doesn't like during "Halo: Reach" online play get punished. Players who help them reach their goal of 117 million daily and weekly challenge completions, however, get rewarded — or at least they will once that mark gets eclipsed and level caps get lifted as a result. The milestone is expected to arrive sometime in November, at which point the glass ceiling for "Reach" titles will no longer stop at Lieutenant Colonel Grade C.

Bungie's made good on their pledge to support "Halo: Reach" post-launch thus far with the addition of campaign matchmaking and by doling out punishments for cheaters. The Noble Map Pack may represent the most welcome move of all, though, when Bungie makes their new multipalyer spaces available through Xbox Live on November 30.

"StarCraft 2" cheaters aren't the only online gaming troublemakers getting targeted in crackdowns right now. Bungie posted an update Friday night that indicated credit resets and earning bans were being doled out as punishment to "Halo: Reach" players who have been exploiting a glitch that allowed them to pocket thousands of extra credits.
