Halo movie

The Halo franchise's quest to produce a feature-length film has been almost as epic as the games themselves, with Peter Jackson, Neill Blomkamp and Steven Spielberg all making appearances as the real-life drama has unfolded. Even though Bungie and Microsoft are parting ways post-"Reach," finding a way to turn Halo into a success outside of games is something Microsoft wants to see happen, whether it means working with a studio or bringing it to HBO as a TV series.

Halo movie

Steven Spielberg's had his hands on the PlayStation Move and a possible new EA game recently, but you may not have realized that he's also been involved with the "Halo" film project that's attempting to rise from the ashes of Neill Blomkamp's unmade adaptation. DreamWorks reportedly wants to get the movie made, and they intend to use the novels as their source material.

Director Neill Blomkamp credited the "Halo" movie's collapse with his ability to focus on "District 9," but he still harbors a unique appreciation for Master Chief. Speaking candidly about his reluctance to return to a "Halo" film if it ever gets resurrected, Blomkamp called the game's hero a symbol for our time.

Another slow week for game releases, but there was still plenty of news to keep us occupied in the gaming world. "Batman: Arkham Asylum," gearing up for its release in a couple weeks, is finally starting to reveal its secrets, and we got more details on "Guitar Hero: Van Halen." There was also some time talking with Neill Blomkamp, the former director of the canceled "Halo" movie. And off we go!

Neill Blomkamp, former director of the "Halo" movie, is currently promoting "District 9." Despite the 30 million dollar budget, his film looks absolutely kick ass, and it makes you wonder what he would've done with the god-knows-how-much-money the "Halo" movie would've gotten.

MTV Movies Editor, Josh Horowitz, sat down with Blomkamp and spoke briefly about his time working on "Halo." Apparently he had 5 months, start to finish, before the movie got canned. He definitely sounds wistful about it, but admits that it probably resulted in him being able to make "District 9."
