In "Gears of War 3," there are plenty of multiplayer modes to keep you occupied, but few have gotten a bigger upgrade than Horde. Horde 2.0 now allows 5 players to take on waves of enemies and, as an added layer of complexity, you can now upgrade strategic defenses scattered about the map to help your odds of survival. Way better than making ridiculous shield walls in "Gears 2," right?
GEARS OF WAR 3 COMPLETE UNLOCKABLES LIST
Here's the thing, though. Even with five people, and even on the easiest difficulty setting, getting through 50 waves of Horde mode is a true challenge. Which is why I'm here to offer some tips which may help your odds of survival.

Closing the book on a trilogy can be hard. We've seen plenty of instances with trilogies ending in disaster: "Godfather 3" and "Matrix Revolutions" spring to mind. "Gears of War 3" steps into this challenging territory, attempting to give a satisfying conclusion to fans while offering features to bring new or battle-scarred players into the fold. And, for the most part, it succeeds swimmingly. For the most part.

Yesterday we posted a giant guide to getting all of the unlockables in "Gears of War 3," including weapon skins, playable characters, executions and mutators. One of the unlockable characters is Aaron Griffin, the head of an Imulsion pumping corporation who plays an important role in the "Gears of War 3" campaign. More noteworthy is the fact that Aaron Griffin is voiced by actor/musician/life coach, Ice T.
Unlocking Griffin through the game is actually pretty tough, and would require playing hundreds of waves of Horde mode to earn the required cash for the onyx Big Money medal. Alternatively, there's a way to unlock him in about 5 minutes, but it requires some social networking.

The "Gears of War" franchise has always had a strong multiplayer component. But what is has lacked is an incentive for playing that multiplayer component. No, fun is apparently not enough. In the era of "Call of Duty," people expect tons of unlockables to encourage that just-one-more-round attitude and, in Gears of War 3, Epic has delivered.
There is a ton of stuff to unlock in "Gears of War 3," from weapon skins to playable characters to weapon-specific executions and mutators which modify the way you play. This guide is dedicated to showing you just what you need to do to unlock each and every thing in the game, and we'll be updating it as more unlockables get added to the mix.

Microsoft's biggest exclusive of the year, "Gears of War 3," is finally hitting stores next Tuesday, and to celebrate the event, the company has a few midnight shindigs planned across the globe featuring giveaways, celebrity guests and, predictably, a lot of game stations.

When they're not developing popular shooters, Epic Games sure know how to put an emotional trailer together. With every "Gears of War" release, the company issues forth a trailer that incorporates a seemingly out-of-place, sad song played over crazy action. The first "Gears" trailer used the haunting "Mad World," as sung by Gary Jules. "Gears of War 2" video featured Devotchka's "How It Ends." Today, Epic has released the latest trailer for "Gears of War 3" and – big surprise – it features a real tear-jerker from Mazzy Star, "To Dust."

We've seen it with "Madden," we've seen it with "LA Noire" and now the "DLC season pass" concept is coming to "Gears of War 3." Yes, starting on September 20, the same date as the game's release, players will be able to purchase a "Gears of War 3" Season Pass, which includes the first four DLC packs.

We're only three weeks away from the release of "Gears of War 3," and anticipation is obviously building. If you just can't wait for a few weeks, Epic Games is willing to help you out, with the release of the "Gears 3" opening cinematic. It's the whole thing, in all its glory, so if you're conversely appalled at the concept of seeing any piece of the game early, don't watch this.
That's right – see if you can look away. Just try to keep yourself from checking out the awesome video that lurks just beyond the jump. I'm sure you can do it (no you can't).

Last year, Epic Games announced that "Gears of War" fans would have the ultimate say on the fate of character Carmine. If you purchased a t-shirt – either "Save Carmine" or "Carmine Must Die" printed on the front – you had the opportunity not only to decide what would happen, but to donate to a great cause, as well. When all the votes were tallied, the campaign had raised over $150,000 for Child's Play. We won't really know Carmine's fate until "Gears of War 3" releases, but it sounds like Epic have taken precautions to ensure it's a surprise either way.

Epic has already said that players will be able to unlock certain pieces of content in "Gears of War 3" by completing objectives in the previous "Gears" games. They haven't, however, been very specific about what objectives people will need to complete and what the rewards will be. Rod Fergusson, the executive producer of "Gears of War 3," was recently in New York to show off the game, and was happy to reveal some of those unlocks for me.
