After pushing out a massive stack of "Fable 3" fixes, Lionhead Studios has decided that it's time to move on and release some more DLC for the game out into the world. November saw the arrival of some new quests, but this new round will take a cue from "World of Warcraft" and give you a new selection of animal companians to choose from for 240 MS points.

"Fable 3" launched with a number of strengths, as well as a few shortcomings, and Lionhead Studios attempted to improve a few things with a patch over Xbox Live today. Though the bundle of notes Lionhead released may not be comprehensive, it does list some useful improvements that will prevent awkward conversation glitches and keep you from falling off of worlds.

Just when you thought Sir Ben Kingsley and his fellow "Fable 3" cast members were living happily ever after on your Xbox 360, Lionhead Studios has laid out plans for three more quests in their Understone Quest Pack. And as it turns out, the new adventures take place right beneath the streets of Bowerstone where you've been hanging out all along.

The original "Fable" promised a heck of a lot of depth and character development, but failed to deliver on enormous expectations. In 2008, though "Fable 2" managed the follow-through on a lot of the promises Lionhead Studios made about the franchise, and the title was one of the strongest releases of that year. Now we have "Fable 3," another game with grand promises and expectations. But can it deliver?

Although Lionhead Studios always tries to make games that can be played by anyone, the "Fable" games are a bit of a tough sell. They hit all the fantasy tropes like magic, goblins and arrows...not exactly things that would be considered "cool" to a non-gamer. The trailers haven't been very inclusive, either, looking more like "Lord of the Rings" spin-offs, complete with eerie British voice overs.
But it seems that someone in the marketing department woke up and realized, Hey, people want to buy a game that looks sort of bad ass, so let's try to do that with "Fable 3." The end result can be seen above.

Update: Joystiq is reporting that "Kingmaker" is "a Europe only digital marketing promotion" with "no U.S. integration," so sorry about that if you got your hopes up in North America.
When was the last time you bought a game that featured the voice of Simon Pegg and a Foursquare-style app that could line your in-game pockets with gold? "Fable 3" will be the first such game that I'm aware of now that Lionhead Studios founder Peter Molyneux has announced "Fable 3: Kingmaker," an iPhone-based competition between players in the real world to seize locations in the name of rebels or royalists with "Fable 3" gold on the line.

We've known for months that John Cleese, Stephen Fry and Ben Kingsley would be practicing their craft as characters in "Fable 3," but Lionhead Studios has circulated some more details about their parts, as well those belonging to Simon Pegg, Michael Fassbender and Nicholas Hoult. It turns out that Kingsley will be taking his first shot at game acting and both he and Pegg believe intensely in what they've contributed.

Even if "Fable 3" doesn't include Kinect support at launch, it will have a King's ransom worth of Xbox Live Achievements to unlock, and you don't need to be intimately familiar with the series to understand why the list looks like a mash-up of "Fallout 3" and "The Sims" accomplishments. A little Ghostbusters humor may sneak up on you, however, but you'll understand why after you read the rundown below.

Lionhead Studios founder Peter Molyneux may think you'd be silly to suggest he wouldn't want Kinect support in "Fable 3," but such features reportedly will not appear out-of-the-box when the game ships for the Xbox 360 on October 26. That doesn't necessarily mean that the new sequel will be cast out of Kinect's lineup altogether, but it does seem to indicate that it won't be a Kinect title immediately out of the gate.

Peter Molyneux is the creator of the "Fable" franchise (among others) and he's infamous for his game demos. His unflappable delivery and dry wit, even when it involves poop, is able to enrapture even the most jaded games journalist. So when he said during a demo that he was revolutionizing a button on the Xbox 360 controller, I braced myself. Molyneux then pointed to the Start button. His goal is to make this button unlike any Start button before it.
