With "Destiny" on the way next year, Bungie would like to introduce you to the worlds, their players, and who'll (or what) you'll be shooting at.

Destiny

One of my favorite things about "Gears of War: Judgment," though I don't mention it in my review, is that developers People Can Fly tried to prevent griefers and trolls from spawn camping. In most multiplayer modes, there are more spawn points than there are enemy players to camp them, for example. In others, spawn points are protected by swarms of hell-bats that devour any enemy player that gets too close.

It doesn't always work, of course, but I appreciate the effort. "Halo" creators Bungie will have their own methods for dealing with bad behavior in "Destiny," their upcoming sci-fi, quasi-MMO first-person shooter, according to a recent interview with Edge.

Destiny

According to an interview in the most recent issue of Edge Magazine, Bungie has been finding inspiration in games "Borderlands" during development of their quasi-online, maybe-MMO shooter "Destiny."

“We are absolutely doing things that would be familiar if you’ve played any kind of open-world game,” said creative lead Joe Staten. “We would be idiots if we didn’t look at an awesome game like 'Borderlands' and ask, ‘What are they doing well and how can we try to hit that same ball?’"

Destiny

We're a small crew here, manning the Good Ship Multiplayer, handcrafting our posts, uploading only the finest videogame trailers, posting artisanal, fair-trade screenshots. Being owned and operated by a huge multinational media company is tough work, so you'll forgive us if, turns out, we forget to post an E3 presentation of one of the highest-profile games in development.

Yeah, we haven't posted about "Destiny" in a while. Whoops.

destiny-wolf-pack-trailer

Are you done groaning over that dumb headline? Yes? Great.

So what was all that exposition about wolf packs and laws of the jungle have anything to do with robots on the moon? I hate to break it you, Gus, but there aren't any jungles on the moon or Mars. Also, wolves don't live in jungles. I mean, maybe a panther? Right? They're jungle cats. But I don't think panthers have packs -- listen I'm getting away from the cool visuals. Just watch the video and you can make up your own mind about what it means.

"Destiny" has been one of the worst-kept secrets in the game industry, what with the Bungie/Activision contract leaking amidst the "Call of Duty" court case last May, the story/art leak in November, and Bungie itself even teased the game deep inside of "Halo 3: ODST". But those were all just small pieces of the puzzle, and now we’ve finally been able to sit down with the studio and officially take a look at the game.

Well, at least we’ve seen pieces of the game. It’s a bit like Leonardo da Vinci showing you a palette, some paints, a brush, and a canvas, and then saying, “Here’s what I’ll be using to paint the Mona Lisa.” Because this was a first look at their new creation, it was very top-level, explaining the story, and blasting us with a lot of concept art.  There were some brief glimpses of in-game footage, but not nearly enough to satisfy us. After all, we are gamers, and every time we see a new game teased, our trigger fingers immediately start itching as we want to try it out.

But you probably want to know what we found out. So here’s a handy guide to what Destiny is all about…. so far.

Bungie's been pretty quiet since the release of "Halo: Reach" amid their ongoing development of the sci-fi shooter, "Destiny." Well, starting next week, we can probably expect to start seeing/hearing more details in earnest as the studio behind "Halo" begins showing the press what they've been up to since going independent from Microsoft.
