"Bionic Commando" and "Dark Void" both had spin-off titles associated with them and, ironically, it was those companion titles that ended up being the better games. Perhaps it's because Capcom has honed their 2D game-making skills to such a fine point that whenever they try to branch out from that, it doesn't always go as well? Except for, um, "Lost Planet" and "Dead Rising." Ok, that was not a very well-made point, but you get my drift.
Anyway, that was a lot of build up to say that "Dark Void Zero," the 8-bit-styled spin-off title that was initially launched for WiiWare, is now coming to iPhone and PC on April 12th for $3 and $5 respectively. Hooray jet packs!

If there's one lesson that can be learned from "Dark Void" it's never to fly through the Bermuda Triangle on a stormy night; bad things happen. Capcom's latest release starts there an ends up in an entirely different universe. "Dark Void" mixes up the action shooter genre by adding jet packs, a famous scientist, and setting it in an ominous world called "The Void." It's a different take on third-person shooters, and an introduction to a new I.P. that might turn into a franchise that we could see more from in the future.

"Super Street Fighter 4" will see its previously announced March 23 street date pushed back, as will "Dead Rising 2," "Lost Planet 2" and "Monster Hunter Tri," thanks to a blanket decision by Capcom. The publisher cited steep competition in 2010's first quarter as the impetus for the delays, which should place the games' release dates sometime after April 1.

Capcom seems to really like the package they put together for "Mega Man 9" and "Mega Man 10," going as far as to design retro box art for their digitally released 8-bit sidescrollers. They've also gone as far as to make an 8-bit DSiware spin-off title based on their upcoming game "Dark Void." "Dark Void Zero" will feature an elaborately concocted fictional history about how it helped inspire "Dark Void," as well as a punchy soundtrack composed by Bear McCreary of "Battlestar Galactica" fame.

If Capcom's "Dark Void" becomes a hit when it comes out in 2010, Brad Pitt's production company Plan B Entertainment will already be ahead of the game, as they've announced they now have the rights to make a film based on the unreleased title.

"Dark Void," Capcom's jetpack-centric action game, has been pushed a few times. Now it's currently residing in early 2010, but that doesn't mean they can't start telling the world about it now. As a means of getting the word out, Capcom sent out a decidedly clever package, pictured after the break:

Up until a week ago, it had been roughly a year since I last saw Capcom’s and Airtight Games’ “Dark Void.” A cool premise and some ambitious gameplay components were overshadowed in that earlier demo by a litany of troublesome visual and functional issues. However, with “Void” currently circling a Fall ’09 release and E3 right around the corner, it came as no surprise last week when Capcom breezed through New York on a media tour with a fully playable demo level from the game in tow.
In case you need a refresher, “Dark Void” follows cargo pilot Will as he is blasted into another… uhhhh… “somewhere” after taking a small detour over the Bermuda Triangle. It’s not really clear what or where Void – the name of the place our hapless pilot ends up – actually is: alternate dimension, parallel universe, surreal dream-world… it could be any, all or none of those.
