Last week, the New York Videogame Critics Circle announced 2011 slate of winners, crowning Bastion with two awards (one for music, one for Best Indie), while showing some love for Sony's "Michael" ad campaign (you know, the one where Kratos, Snake, and a bunch of other game heroes go to a bar). You can find the full lineup of winners after the jump.

A couple weeks ago, Electronic Arts relaunched their digital distribution portal. Previously called the EA Store, the service's name was changed to Origin on June 3. The EA-only service also included a download client, which is easily comparable to Valve's own Steam store. There has been some question as to how Valve would respond to EA's new digital distribution service, and today only has me scratching my head more.
EA and Crytek's "Crysis 2" has suddenly disappeared, "Alice: Madness Returns" is nowhere to be found, and there's no pre-order option for "Battlefield 3."

Aspiring game developers got some great news today from Crytek. The "Crysis 2" dev announced that editing tools for the PC version of the game will be coming out way early this summer. Then, in August, Crytek will be releasing a free version of the software development kit for its CryENGINE game engine for creating entirely new content within CryENGINE 3, which is what powers the recently released "Crysis" sequel.

In the past, I've proclaimed my fondness for playing games on Easy. But, if a game is well-made and not frustrating to the point of unfair on higher difficulty levels, I'm happy to give myself a challenge. Case in point: "Crysis 2." Since I'm pretty experienced with stealth games, I figured I'd jump into Crytek's sequel on the hardest difficulty setting, Super Soldier. After all, if I'm playing stealthy, being able to get shot 3 times versus 6 times before death shouldn't matter.
Even on lower difficulty settings, "Crysis 2" is a serious challenge. One misstep or misused power has the potential to wipe away all the progress you've made since the last checkpoint, and this might be as long as 15 or 20 minutes. Finishing on Super Soldier felt like an accomplishment. An achievement, even! Evidently the game didn't think so. Upon finishing the game, just two achievements unlocked: the one for beating it on any difficulty setting and the one for beating it on Veteran. But where was my 65 point Super Soldier achievement? I went online to find out.

"Crysis 2" is out today and, for the first time, the franchise is coming to consoles. It's great news for shooter fans and not-having-a-three-thousand-dollar-computer fans, but if you're a newcomer to the franchise, you're probably going to be dying. A lot. Unlike most shooters, marching into the midst of a camp of bad guys in "Crysis 2" is a recipe for a reloaded checkpoint. This is really more of a thinking person's shooter, but if you're not used to to thinking, we've got you covered. Here are some starter tips to help you acclimate to the wonders of the Nanosuit 2.0.

Horrible news for Electronic Arts and "Crysis" developer Crytek over the weekend. The developer's upcoming "Crysis 2," which is due for release on March 22 in North America, leaked online. It's a pretty serious leak too, as reports peg what's floating around as a complete, albeit incredibly buggy, dev build of the game, complete with multiplayer and the master key for online authentication.

Crytek wants to test out their boldly marketed "Halo-killer" of a sequel "Crysis 2" on the Bungie series' home turf aboard the Xbox 360. They need Gold-subscribing Xbox Live members to populate the beta test, though, and are thusly sending out invitations.

Some of us who read about "Crysis 2" getting pushed into 2011 wondered what was going to become of that leaked "Crysis 2" Nano Edition, as well as that beta test that was supposed to happen this autumn. Well, EA sent out a press release, and those details now seem to be ironed out.

"Crysis 2" was scheduled to come out for the 2010 holiday season, but EA has tweaked that timeline a bit, and the game has now been transplanted to March 22, 2010. That date only applies for North America, however. Europe will get it two days later on March 25.

"Crysis 2" will be boasting big-time in-game technology when it comes out this autumn. It will also boast a deluxe "Nano Edition," according to an online retail listing that slipped out into the public eye. For anyone who bought those "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" nightvision goggles from the Prestige Edition last year but needs some extra cargo room, the bundle will come with its very own backpack — and come with a price point as high as $199.
