Jack Black

Jack Black was on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" last night, appearing in his full-on Eddie Riggs costume (last seen at the VMAs). Oddly he was playing Jack Black, channeling Eddie Riggs, and he remained in character for the duration, participating in demon-slaying skits with fake audience members.

It's a pretty entertaining watch, and it's all online for your enjoyment. The first clip can be found here, but the full interview is also available online.

In this week's Game Plan, we have what could arguably be the best game of the year, as well as me with a cold. I say some goofy things, 'cause of the medicine. Don't mind me. "National Treasure" really is awesome, though.

Brutal Legend

After an extended wait, Rocktober 13 has finally arrived. If you’re reading this, you likely know what that means. After four years, Tim Schafer and the folks at Double Fine Productions have finally finished off the follow-up to their superb-yet-criminally undersold 2005 release, "Psychonauts." "Brutal Legend" is the latest zany creation to spring forth from Schafer’s mind, and it’s a doozy. But does the adventure measure up to the ordeals of Raz and his psychic summer camp buddies?

You may have noticed a rather buff gentleman wielding an axe on the red carpet during the VMAs last night. What you might not have known was that it was Jack Black, dressed up as the hero of "Brutal Legend," roadie Eddie Riggs. To complete the look, Jack had a muscle suit, a head banger's wig and a "Brutal Legend" t-shirt. And, oh yes, the aforementioned axe. Don't worry, it was plastic.

It does beg the question, which was stranger: Jack Black as Eddie Riggs or Lady Gaga's bejeweled neck brace?

Some crazy rumors swirled this week, as well as some impressive Rubick's Cube talent...check out Multiplayer's top stories for the last 7 days!

Games are getting more and more complex. Every passing day brings with it more gigantic press releases in my inbox about the depth and intricacy of a video game. Why can't we go back to simpler times, when a game could be described thusly: "Use the tank to shoot the dot and get points"?

Well I'm making it happen, whether the video game likes it or not. Oh yes, I'm bringing it: The One Sentence Challenge. Here are the rules:

A publisher or developer must describe their game in one grammatically correct sentence. No run-ons or particularly aggressive semi-colons allowed. I'll admit that this isn't very compelling for, say, "Madden," but wouldn't you like to know how someone might summarize the enormity of, say, "World of WarCraft" or "Fallout 3"? Here are some of the suggestions I got from you guys. I'll be reaching out to publishers and developers, and hopefully we'll get some good answers.

It'll probably come as a shock to you, but Tim Schafer is a bit of a Rubick's Cube master. Apparently he read a book as a kid that taught him how to solve one, and he's been doing it ever since.

So when the time came to reveal the whopping 108 songs from the "Brutal Legend" soundtrack, Tim thought it might be a good idea to challenge his love of both metal and the Rubick's. So it's a race: Can someone read the full soundtrack before Tim can solve the Rubick's Cube? No spoilers, just watch the video and enjoy:

At the UK's Download Festival this past weekend, music fans gathered at a booth set up by EA to become a part of history. Their goal? To break the world record for "Most People Playing Air Guitar At One Time." The previous record was set last year, with a total of 318 people air-rocking.

The end result? They managed to break the record, with a total of 440 fans playing along to Motorhead's "Ace of Spades."

The event was organized by EA as a means of promoting the rock-centric adventure game, "Brutal Legend." T-shirts were given out to the crowd, and one lucky air guitarist won an exclusive Tenacious D electric guitar.

Is it just me or is the UK winning in the "Ridiculous Marketing Stunts to Promote Games" category? Last week THQ left a parked car filled with copies of "Red Faction: Guerrilla" on a London street. Oh, and they tied a sledge hammer to the car and pretty much let folks go wild. And how can we forget the goat decapitation for "God of War 2"? Yeah...they're definitely in the lead.

E3 is just next week, and it's going to be pretty much chaos. Don't get me wrong, I'm excited, but I'm also sorta mentally preparing myself for a week of not eating or sleeping (but drinking more than I probably should). Anyway, since there's just so much going on next week I wanted to narrow down the 5 titles which I'm most pumped about…if only to make sure I don't miss 'em. In no particular order:

Brutal Legend
I've seen it twice so far, and every time I do I want to see even more of it. Tim Schafer's ode to metal is hilarious, looks great and features Zelda-esque exploration that could be pumped right into my veins to bring pure, unadulterated joy. So yeah, seeing more of this would be nice.
