A summer blockbuster based around giant robots beating the crap out of unearthly kaiju would be a natural fit for a big budget video game tie-in, right? If the Australian rating submission for the XBLA/PSN "Pacific Rim: The Video Game" that VG247 came across is to be believed, then we just might be getting a more modest take on Guillermo del Toro's next big feature.

With "Moulin Rouge" director Baz Luhrmann's pop dramatic adaptation of "The Great Gatsby" in theaters this week, what better way to revisit the themes of F. Scott Fitzgerald jazz-era novel than with an 8-bit rowing game.

"Blood Dragon" in a lot of ways is a perfect way to experience vanilla "Far Cry 3" without getting too invested. For 15 bucks (1200 MS Points), Ubisoft smartly detatches the main game and narrative threads of an island hopping, male power fantasy featuring a douchey 20 something for... a male power fantasy featuring a retro throwback of douchey action star. A mouthy look at some of the best (and worst) of what 80's and 90's action movies had to offer -- it's that mid-afternoon cable movie that you've just woken up to after passing out drunk on the couch, bathed in the dim glow of your TV set. Shirtless and confused, you stumble for the remote to turn it off but something compels you to perervere through your stupor because you just saw the most kickass and ridiculous action sequence of any action movie worth its salt.
"It's so bad it's good" seems to be Ubisoft's MO for "Blood Dragon" and it mostly works -- mostly.

Movies about geeks have never been particularly flattering. Even in films like Revenge of the Nerds where the nerds win the day, there is plenty of dramatic license taken to make them badass so they can win the girl. But stories that cut to the heart of geekdom and reveal what true nerdery is all about? Those are extremely rare. It's even rarer when you find yourself pulling for the geek at the heart of those stories, despite everything else.
Luckily this year at SXSW we stumbled across Zero Charisma, a film about a gamemaster struggling to keep his RPG campaign alive after losing one of the main players. But problems arise when he has to battle with the replacement for popularity, and his world begins to unravel. The entire movie hinges on the fantastic performance of Sam Eidson as Scott Weidemeyer, and while he might seem a bit over the top, the honest truth is that we all know someone exactly like him. And we can see facets of ourselves in his personality.
Filmmaker Katie Graham served as director of photography on the cult hit documentary Best Worst Movie about the making of Troll 2, which she also co-edited with fellow filmmaker Andrew Matthews. Together, they co-directed Zero Charisma, based on Matthews' script. We caught up with them long after the frenzy of SXSW to talk about the making of the movie, and how they stayed true to nerdom. Read on for the full interview, and try to catch Zero Charisma if you can. With any luck, a distribution deal will get it close to you. There's a scene where Scott blasts some World of Warcraft players that you really need to see.

In 2010 Telltale Games did the unthinkable, bringing a handful of random characters together to sit down at the same table, and play some poker. "Poker Night at the Inventory" had players face off against Tycho from Penny Arcade, Max from "Sam & Max," the Heavy Weapons Guy from "Team Fortress 2," and Strong Bad from Homestar Runner, in a PC only, Texas Hold 'Em tournament where poker was only half as interesting as the characters. "Poker Night 2" sends players back to The Inventory, and deals them in for another hand against some huge names from the worlds of video games, cartoons, and movies.
