Zelda CD-i Games

Earlier this year, when "Hyrule Historia" was released, it provided a comprehensive history of every "Zelda" game, save for two, "BS Zelda" and "Link's Crossbow Training." The two smaller pieces of Link's history were mentioned in a footnote on page 68, but It makes sense that they weren't included, since one was a Japan-only, digitally distributed title for the Super Famicom, and the other was seemingly created just to showcase the Wii's Zapper.

However, two additional "Zelda" games were complexly overlooked, not even getting a mention; "Link: Faces of Evil" and "Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon," both of which were released in 1993 for the infamous Phillips CD-i system. They have become known for their poor design, bad animation, questionable voice over work, and generally being two of the worst games ever released. On any system. Ever. They're so bad that they have become Internet fodder, and have been at the root of one of gaming's most beloved memes.

So, where were those games, and why weren't they included in "Hyrule Historia"? Surely, Eiji Aonuma, the Director of the "Zelda" series for Nintendo, and a major contributor to "Hyrule Historia" would know. So I asked him, and got what may be one of the only comments on the games, ever, by a Nintendo employee.

If I understand this blog post by Maxis general manager Patrick Buechner correctly, publisher Electronic Arts is set to donate at least $100,000 to the Red Cross this year. The process starts with a new pack of Red Cross-themed downloadable content for "SimCity," which went live earlier this week.

For the most part, the game looks largely the same as the most recent, previous entries in the series, which is either good or bad, depending one's point of view. Though there are two notable stand outs.

With all this talk of the PS4 and Xbox One, there's still one reason why many are holding onto their PS3s and Xbox 360s. And that reason is "Dark Souls 2". And finally, we have arrival dates for said game: March 11, 2014 in North America, and March 14 of next year as well for Europe.

HiroshiYamauchi

When most people are asked to identify the one person most responsible for Nintendo's legacy, almost everyone names Shigeru Miyamoto. Which makes total sense; Miyamoto is, after all and without question, one of the most important important and influential game designers of all time.

Though it could be argued that Hiroshi Yamauchi is the one who deserves the most credit. He's the longtime president of company, between 1949-2002, who among other things hired a cartoonist, a friend of a friend's son, who had zero experience in video games, and put him in charge of making games. Said artist being Miyamoto.

Yamauchi's made many such moves that would have similarly incredible ramifications on the world of video games. And that man has just passed away, at the age of 85.
