Platinum Games (Bayonetta, Vanquish) has released 11 minutes of new footage from their third-person brawler, Anarchy Reigns (Max Anarchy in Japan). Rather than spend a lot of time and money away from development to show off out of context highlights, they went renegade-style and simply filmed their staff playing a multiplayer round. The session shows off a four on four red vs blue team deathmatch. Platinum's previous MadWorld character's Jack and Leo make an appearance, though the recently announced playable Bayonetta is sadly nowhere to be seen.

From the footage it looks like you can select where to spawn (thank god!), summon mutants, and check out 6:12 for maximum awesomesauce. Is it just me, or does this look it could make a really cool X-Men game? It's got to be better than last year's X-Men Destiny at any rate.

Anarchy Reigns is due this July on Xbox 360 and PS3.

Telltale's foray into zombie territory makes a strong case for me to shrug off my fatigue in the face of what continues to be an endless onslaught of zombie fiction. Taking place in and around the events of Robert Kirkman's long-running Image comic of the same name, it compresses the drama in that zombie apocalypse soap opera creating a palpable sense of danger and tragedy. It encapsulates so much of what has made The Walking Dead compelling as a comic these past few years while staying true to Telltale's patented mix of storytelling and gaming.

Looking back at the list of titles that graced 8-bit consoles (and PCs) in 1987, you find that's it's a veritable parade of first entries in what would in time go on to either greatly influence gaming or spawn literally dozens of sequels between them. This is the year that modern video gaming was born, as simple left-to-right platforming was starting to experience previously unseen variations and mutations, while the standard bearers of fighting games and RPGs experienced their genesis. Take a look back at some of these classic titles celebrating their 25th anniversary—either of their initial release or the first time we got them on our shores—as part of the 1987 Silver series on MTV Multiplayer.
