Because yesterday was Tuesday, I didn't play any games. I decided to shelve "Fallout 3" until its third expansion (coming in March) because a Bethesda rep couldn't confirm for me yet whether any adventuring I do before that expansion arrives will count toward the third expansion's raised level cap. So next from the 2008 stack is "Far Cry 2," which I'll return to as soon as I blitz through "Killzone 2," a game I need to play so I can cover it for the site next week. That's the plan for now.

Nine minutes before the release of the first expansion for "Fallout 3" last night, I finished the main quest of the game. I need to get some feelings out about this. Note that there are endgame spoilers in today's Diary. Read more...

For family reasons I was back down in Georgia this weekend where I found myself battling my 10-year-old sister-in-law in "Wii Play" -- and reconsidering the value of America's best selling game of 2008. Read more...

I'm not going to spoil anything, but I think that the way I've been playing "Fallout 3" may have ruined the game's story -- such is the hazard of game developers trying to tell a well-paced story in a game I can play at my own pace. Read more...

While waiting for "Lost" to begin I finally played a game released in 2009, "The Maw." It only took me 21 days to get a taste of '09 gaming -- I wonder how long it's taking everyone else. Read more...

Not only did I not have time to play video games yesterday (that's how my Tuesdays always are), but America's Inauguration of its 44th president had no time for video games either. For all the talk of video games' financial and cultural impact on American culture, the medium appeared to have no relevance to a landmark day in American history. Read more...

Faced with a seemingly impossible task, I have decided to take a desperate measure: avoid all remaining side-quests. Read more...

I'm off to Orlando today to attend the "Halo" Wedding, a trip that will finally bring me back to handheld gaming in a significant way in 2009. Packed for the trip along with an embargoed DS game will be "Chrono Trigger" and "Away Shuffle Dungeon." And with that, I notice an odd hole in my collection: I need some new, good quick-play DS games. I'm overloaded with long DS adventures.

This week's "Fallout 3" patch failed to turn Bethesda's epic into a bug-free game, as I discovered last night. Read more...
