skyrim

A while ago, Eiji Aonuma, best know as being the longtime producer and director of "The Legend of Zelda," told the whole world that he had checked out "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim."

And as is often the case, one thing led to another, and next thing you know, there were rumors going around that the next Zelda would be heavily influenced by Skyrim.

Which to be honest, is not the craziest of notions; word has it that playing "Shadows of the Colossus" at E3 many years back played a part in Twilight Princess. Though the most piece of speculation is just that and nothing more.

Bethesda might be finished with "Skyrim" DLC but that won't stop the army of modders from unleashing new creations for the wintery fantasy world. Modder and apparent TMNT enthusiast, Higeyosi, has tapped into the secret of the ooze to bring the fighting turtles into epic dragon fights!

From time to time, you'll have to drag your atrophied body from the couch and stop playing "Skyrim." Fortunately, you can still remain partially in the fantasy epic with a little piece of the game posed tastefully on your desk or mantel. Partnering with Gamingheads, this version of the Dovahkiin can be yours... for a price.

Ladies, gentleman, aliens from the farthest reaches of the galaxy and daedra from the deepest parts of Oblivion.... The Internet!

In something that can have only come from the mind of Sheogorath, "Internet Celebrity" Tay Zonday, famous for Chocolate Rain belts out the thunderous tune from "Skyrim." In a weird way I can't help but sing along, not only because it's a fine tune, but he also graciously provides karaoke style sing along text. So now that you finally have the words, there's not much of an excuse to not toss back a flagon of mead and summon your "Thu'um."

It's not well documented but it is well known around my social circle about the very real and very sad affliction that haunts my existence. Yes, despite the bugs, stiff narrative, and WTF scripting I love "The Elder Scrolls" series. Dating way back for me with "Arena" and then up to and through "Skyrim", I've spent roughly 90 real life days in my TES adventures, totalling over 700 hours across 7 characters in "Oblivion" alone. I'm not here for your pity nor do I want to be fixed. I merely need to set up a frame of reference before going further into Bethesda's next DLC add-on. With that said, I'll leave my personal obsessions on the side for now.

ANYWAY with "Dawnguard" being less than amazing and "Hearthfire" essentially The Sims-Lite, many fans were cying out for proper expansion pack on par with "Bloodmoon" and "Shivering Isles". Bethesda meets us halfway with "Dragonborn". But is it worth the 1600 MS points?

You need to ask yourself, 'what kind of Skyrim player am I?' If you're the kind who is always on the adventure, ever watchful for a cave or castle to sneak into and loot, then you can stop reading now because Skyrim's latest DLC 'Hearthfire' is not for you. However, if you're the kind of gamer who loves getting deeper into your own fantasy world and has a strong connection to your character, then you might want to lay out the 400 Microsoft moonbucks for a chance to fulfill your pioneering spirit.

Since this is mostly a cosmetic addition to Skyrim you won't find any traditonal quests. In fact, there aren't any quests at all besides making a few land purchases. When you first boot up the new DLC, you'll soon run into a courier with a note about a new plot of land for sale. Just travel wherever the letter tells you to and talk to the Jarl and plunk down a few thousand septims and you're now the proud owner of some prime estate. This is the easy part. Now begins the fun.

Skyrim has always let you kill things and ride horses, but regrettably never let you kill things while riding a horse. This will cease to be an issue shortly as Skyrim developer, Bethesda Game Studios, has announced that the upcoming 1.6 free update will add mounted combat.
