Metro: Last Light

One of the attractive things, I think, about 4A Games' "Metro: Last Light" is how different it is from other first-person shooters. Where "Call of Duty" is bombastic and jingoistic, "Metro" is atmospheric, tense, and reserved. It's about hardscrabble refugees instead of over-muscled soldiers, about dire oppression more than empowerment.

"Metro: Last Light" falls in lockstep with its big-budget brethren when it comes to business, though: publisher Deep Silver have announced a crop of downloadable content and a season pass for the recently released title.

square-enix-online-store

Until I can purchase a spiky, foam, blonde wig for cosplaying Cloud or an officially licensed Besaid Aurochs Blitzball then I have absolutely no use for the grand opening of Square Enix's online store. But if you're interested in the fantastic plastic figures from the awesome Play Arts Kai series or adorable Chocobo plushies, then you'll find them in one convenient location.

Show of hands: who remembers "N" or Metanet Software? Way back in Ye Olden Days of 2004, Metanet released "N," a physics-enabled ninja platforming game. It was popular for a time, eventually warranting the release of "N+" to Xbox Live Arcade, the DS, and the PSP.

You could also argue that "N" paved the way for future platformers like Team Meat's "Super Meat Boy," games that focused on speed, precision, and quick, brutal death."N" may feel barebones in comparison, but it's one of the most successful and longest-running Flash-based games I can think of. A whopping eight years into things, Metanet have released "N" 2.0.

Diablo III

To celebrate the one-year anniversary of "Diablo III," Blizzard have concocted a handy-dandy infographic full of stats, curios, and comparisons to illustrate, I'm assuming, how successful and popular the game has been.

It's a big, meaty graphic, though, so the best way to view it is to navigate to the "Diablo III" blog and embiggen it from there. It's the easiest way to see, for example, that 14.5 million different people created characters in "Diablo III," or that Witch Doctor is the least popular class in normal and Hardcore modes.

Magiclogo

Warning: the following might be complete gibberish to you if you have never touching a card from Magic: The Gathering. If you haven't, that's okay. We're a geek support group that is here to help you. If you need a crash course in the phenomenon that is Magic, we suggest you check out Magic: The Gathering – Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013 on XBLA, PSN, PC, or iOS and immerse yourself into some fantasy-based, card-gaming nerdery. Or you can stroll into your local board game store, and step up to the bar and ask them "What the hell is this Magic stuff all about, anyhow." They will derisively sneer at you, and then initiate you into your newfound addiction.

Of course, if you already know Magic, then this is all moot. Magic 2014 - Duels of the Planeswalkers is on the way to those same systems again, along with Android devices for the very first time, and the new Magic 2014 Core Set is coming as well, featuring many of the same cards and adding new features. Wizard of the Coast was good enough to send us this exclusive image of a new card from the set, which will be available in both Duels and the paper set. Looks like Young Pyromancers get to dabble in street fashion, while simultaneously burning things with their hands.

Read on for more details from the upcoming game, and start tapping some mana, baby.

megaman-5-characters

Go ahead and get it now in the Capcom store.

For my money, the second through fifth games in the "Mega Man" series were one of the rare, uninterrupted streaks during the 8-bit era, so it's great that all of those soundtracks are now available (if a little pricey for my tastes).

You can find the full 57-track listing after the jump.
