It's that time of year where we celebrate the memorable games from the last year. The best, the best-looking, the one's that kept us on the edge of our seat, and the ones that nearly had us tossing the controller in frustration. Be sure to check out the other MTV Multiplayer Best of 2012 lists!

When preparing this list, MTV Multiplayer Clint Mize rejected the category title "Best-looking," or "prettiest game." It makes sense--making the case that a game is simply "pretty" ignores the careful assembly of elements--from lighting, to object placement, to overall style, to how it animates and looks in motion--that go into defining a game's art direction.

These are the games that put it all together, that one's that shouldn't be hung up as works of art because we're too busy playing them.

Editor's Note: This list is pretty much a plagiarization of Jason's fantastic "Five Wii U Games You Should Be Playing At Launch" post.

I mean really, Nintendo's quirky mix of tablet and console has only been out a short while, so I haven't got to play that many games yet. That being said, my experiences with the few I have had the pleasure to jump into have more or less sold me on a future for Nintendo. Also, take note that this is a truncated list compared to Charles' top 10 games of Xbox 360 and PS3. As making a list of the best offerings for any console is difficult enough (especially for one who plays internal mind games of Devil's advocate), there's a little ease in the pressure dispite a decently sized launch lineup. So without further ado, here are the best games of 2012 for the Wii U!

In 2012, we taken a closer look at some of the soundtracks gracing the games we liked throughout the year--from the orchestral, Hollywood-style scores by award-winning composers to curated collections featuring indie and underground hits.

So what sounded good in games in 2012?

When you're spending six to 60 hours in a game, the characters you play and the characters around you need to be a little dangerous, a little scary, a little vulnerable--but maybe not all in the same person.

So which character stuck with us the most even after the game was over? Maybe they scared us a little; maybe we we afraid what would happen to them once the credits started to roll; maybe we hoped we could play as them again in the future.

These are our picks for the best characters of 2012.

Let's celebrate the PS3 and Sony--because after the rocky patch they had in 2012, the publisher and software giant needs it. If I had trouble picking 360 exclusives to focus on in yesterday's post, it's the opposite here--Sony's raft of PS3-exclusives provided a ridiculous number of thoughtful, funny, strange, and ultimately killer games this year (at least digitally--first party AAA titles were another story).

Let's look back at the excellent games that made their way to the PS3 in 2012.

Yesterday, we looked back at some of our hopes for the game industry from the beginning of 2012. This time around, I've put together a wish list for the big brains at each of the big three console makers.

Why aren't the PC and iOS represented? Well, both of those represent a disparate set of interests. While Apple as a a hardware maker is a channel through which games are delivered, they're not (at present) in the making of games business. And the PC--well, everyone making excellent PC games, just keep doing that times infinity.

So with that in mind, let's take a look at what we're hoping Sony, MS, and Nintendo will get up to in 2013.

At the beginning of 2012, I proposed a list of 10 suggestions for the video game industry heading into the new year. Could 2012 see the resurrection of a classic gaming genre a la the fighting game in 2011? Would AAA games start looking beyond nukes and the apocalypse for new games under development?

It was an optimistic list, in many ways not quite in sync with the realities of game development (a 2012 list would really be a list for games of 2014 and beyond). Still, let's look back at a couple of selections and see what, if any resolutions came to fruition this year.

A mess of Vita bundles for $199

Heading out into the Black Friday fracas this weekend? Well, if you survive it, you might be able to nab one of these discounted retailer-specific Vita bundles. While the platform has been working this year to build up an audience, it's kind of hard to turn down a cheaper handheld with free games.

Best Buy will be offering a "Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified" bundle with a copy of the shooter, a crystal white Vita, and 4 GB memory stick. Amazon and Gamestop will be offering the same bundle with "Assassin's Creed III: Liberation," while Target's version is the slightly weaker deal with the superior "LEGO Batman 2" but the standard Vita color and no extra memory.

With the holidays just around the corner, we at MTV Geek want to help you out with your shopping lists! Here's our Official Xbox 360 Gift Guide!

Call of Duty: Black Ops II Care Package Edition

This one's for the gamer in your life with a little bit of extra space that you're willing to spend a little extra money on.

The definition of a special edition of a game, this version of "Black Ops II" comes with its own heavy-duty tackle box, the game included in a steelbook case, both the Nuketown Zombies and Nuketown 2025 DLC, and the game's soundtrack. Activision and Treyarch have curated a fine collection of material here (including some avatar items, if that's your thing), and while there's nothing as grossly excessive (and awesome) as the night vision goggles included with "Modern Warfare 2" way back when, it's still a fine presentation for the game.

If "GTA IV" was about the perils of chasing the American dream, "GTA V" looks to be about the stress of dealing with it when you've got it--at least based on Rockstar's new trailer.

New protagonists Michael (the older narrator), Trevor (the crazy bald guy), and Franklin (the young guy) are chasing the dollar and, if "GTA" history holds true, will fall in with evil, dangerous men. It also looks like an opportunity for Rockstar to tell three distinct but intertwined stories in their recently-announced shift allowing players to switch between the game's three protagonists.

Let's pick at the trailer a bit and see what new, interesting tidbits might be revealed.
