How does a game studio follow up a highly anticipated--and ultimately well received--reboot of a beloved PC franchise? Why, reboot another equally revered PC series. From "Deus Ex: Human Revolution" to the simply titled "Thief", Eidos Montreal clearly like to challenge themselves, even if it might feel like countless invisible PC gamers are looking over their shoulders. MTV Multiplayer caught up with "Thief" producer, Stephan Roy and lead level designer, Daniel Windfeld Schmidt to comment on our reaction to their recent gameplay demo.

Being mindful of the original game's staff and what they've gone on to do, I assume you guys are ready to hear the "Dishonored" comparisons. You crafted this gritty, believable world, that is a bit of a contrast to the abstract look of "Dishonored", so I'm also recalling the originality of "The Witcher".

First of all, thanks to Square Enix for stopping at MTV HQ to show off Lara's new adventure. Also, thanks to Patty Tenicela who helped me keep me cool through the whole process that otherwise would have been sorta embarassing for me (I'm not such a great public speaker '~'). Ok, so with that out of the way, we're taking a few shakey baby steps with a (hopefully) recurring video series about the latest big game releases. First up is 'Tomb Raider.'

All in all, we had about an hour and change to run through the violent and mysterious island, solve a few puzzles, eat a deer or two, threaten a rat, and tear our way through several psychotic bad guys. I'll let the video speak for itself but there's a quick mini-impression after the break. Hope you enjoy!

Just 'cause you're shipwrecked and stranded on a forgotten island inhabited by murderous misogynists bent on making your life a living hell doesn't mean a girl can't look her best. Perhaps getting tossed about in fights for your life isn't so great for your skin but at least your hair will remain bouncy and full!

Teaming up with video card manufacturer AMD, "Tomb Raider" developer, Crystal Dynamics have created a new way to render hair making for some of the most realistic braids and bangs. The new tech, dubbed TressFX Hair will be available for PC users when the game officially launches next week and it promises to make Lara's famous ponytail look and move like the real deal. The press release goes on with some fancy words about what's going on in the back end along with a drain clogging amount of pics showing off the lush locks; but of course we know this all part of Square Enix's JRPG hair innitiative for FF XIII's leading lady, Lightning!

Holy sh*t! Lara has gone Rambo!

Having had several hands-on moments with Crystal Dynamics' "Tomb Raider" reboot and I can honestly say that you wouldn't want to cross paths with a pissed off Lara Croft. Continuing their "Guide to Survival" video series, the young adventurer digs deep inside and finds the necessary strength of will to fend off any and all opponents. It looks like you'll get plenty of gruesome action on the violent and mysterious island of Yamatai.

In a press release sent out yesterday, Square Enix details its earnings for the first three quarters of the 2012 fiscal year, admitting that it’s console games aren’t exactly making it rain: “the Company has not recovered the operating loss posted in the six-month period ended September 30, 2012, primarily due to the increasingly difficult condition of the world-wide console game market, under which the Group is struggling to achieve a fair expected return on its investment.”

While no titles were mentioned specifically Square’s statement suggests, in layman’s terms, that games like IO Interactive’s “Hitman: Absolution” and United Front’s “Sleeping Dogs” are selling enough to make back the money it cost to make them. Square Enix does have the upcoming “Tomb Raider” coming in March, which it surely hopes will make a late push to end the fiscal year on a positive note.

"We don't have to have multiplayer to have a successful single-player,” Eidos Montreal’s Daniel Bisson told Eurogamer recently. “It’s not critical to do that.”

And yet, the new "Tomb Raider" game, published by Square Enix and coming out in March, has several multiplayer modes. Crystal Dynamics is handling the single-player campaign while Bisson’s team at Eidos Montreal is developing the game’s team deathmatch and survival multiplayer modes.

Square Enix and DeNa announced today that Final Fantasy Airbone Brigade, a free-to-play social game, is coming to North American Android and iOS devices, though no release date has been set.

This is far from Square’s first foray into mobile gaming – that distinction belongs to Final Fantasy IV: The After Years, an episodic sequel to Final Fantasy IV from 2008 – but it is the company’s first free-to-play offering associated with its trademark franchise.
