Every single Resident Evil fan reading this is well aware of what a mess part 6 was. It was designed as a game that basically "had it all", meaning it would contain facets that would appeal to the different kinds of RE players out there.

But the final product was an overwhelming, bloated train-wreck that made no one happy, most especially the longtime fans, who felt the most disenfranchised. Well, according to a recent interview, it would seem that the message has been heard loud and clear.

Following Electronic Art’s somewhat dubious mea culpa with regards to “Medal of Honor: Warfighter”’s quality, Capcom is similarly falling on its sword, saying that its most popular zombie-shooting franchise needs “focus.” Speaking with Rock, Paper, Shotgun at D.I.C.E., Capcom’s VP of strategic planning and business development Christian Svensson explained the direction “Resident Evil” moving forward.

Capcom has revealed a new game mode for Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City dubbed "Heroes Mode". The new competitive online multiplayer game mode will have players facing off as notable characters from the series and Capcom has thrown a little twist on the typical third-person shooter action.

Not only will playable characters like Leon. S Kennedy, Jill Valentine, Hunk and Ada Wong blow eachother away in four vs. four multiplayer rumbles, players will also be faced with the constant threat of zombies and bio-organic weapons, making this new game mode a three-way battle for survival. Details are scarce (and in Japanese), but gaming blogs Kotaku and Joystiq are reporting that Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu has revealed "Biohazard: The Darkside Chronicles," a sequel to the light-gun Wii game "Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles."
