Sturmwind

Here’s your games industry curio for the day: “Sturmwind” is an old-style shoot-’em-up that took seven years to develop and will be coming to the Sega Dreamcast at the end of April. The Dreamcast!

According to Indie Statik’s abridged history of the game, “Sturmwind” has been in development by a German indie studio named Duranik since at least 2006, when a one-level demo codenamed “Native” made its way online. “Native” was an Atari Jaguar CD game, but it was converted to the Dreamcast project now known as “Sturmwind.”

Duranik eventually struck a deal with Red Spot Games, a publisher and distributor that specializes in WiiWare, Xbox Live Indie, and Dreamcast games. After a few more mishaps -- like a disc production company going bankrupt mid-production -- “Sturmwind” will see the light of day on April 24.

Two tough guys in silver are bringing you your requisite violent action this week, with both "Crysis 3" and "Metal Gear Rising Revengance" hitting the real-world and digital shelves. Crytek's shooter might have a broader fanbase than Platinum's hack and slash side story set in the "Metal Gear" universe, but I'm way more excited about the latter than the former. You can run and gun in any number of first-person shooters, but how many allow you to slow down time and cut watermelon?

In a press release sent out this morning, Rockstar Games announced the release date of "GTA V" on the PS3 and Xbox 360: September 17th, 2013. This is a slip from the previously-announced Spring release window, but not a huge one.

According to the release, the push back to the fall allows Rockstar additional development time with Rockstar noting that Los Santos is the most expansive open world the developer has created to date (plus there's the whole thing of juggling three protagonists' separate but intertwined storylines).
