It's not uncommon to see games mingling with music videos, but while sometimes they appear only for humor, there are instances, such as in the music video for the new Pet Shop Boys single "Love Etc.," where it feels like a genuine homage. Read more...

I took in a demo of the upcoming iPhone update of "The Oregon Trail," and while I can't tell you about that version until next week, it reminded me of a story from my childhood, where my 5th grade teacher was forced to ban "The Oregon Trail" from our classroom. Read more...

You don't have to wait until "Watchmen: The End is Nigh," to play a "Watchmen" game; the marketing machine behind the movie has produced a "Final Fight"-inspired Flash game based on the Minutemen era of the graphic novel, with Night Owl and Silk Spectre as playable characters. Read more...

The lack of buttons on the iPhone hasn't stopped a number of developers from making games requiring them, including vintage-style platforming games (we're talking "Commander Keen" here) that appear to be leading a healthy lifestyle on the application store. Read more...

ESPN.com has an article up about the awesomeness of "Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!" for the Nintendo Entertainment System. I was quoted in it.

Do I share my stories about being managing editor of a boxing magazine for several years? Nope.

Recount my times seeing but for some reason never talking to Iron Mike at boxing press conferences? No. I was young and a bit shy and Evander Holyfield was more approachable!

Do I defend the "Mr. Dream" version of the game, which is the only one I ever owned -- and which gets slammed in the piece? No.

I just talk about not remembering how to beat King Hippo. Thankfully the article's author, Patrick Sauer, reminds me in the article. It's a good read, with pro boxers and others reminiscing about the game.

So do we all agree with this line from the piece?

Remakes and high-definition graphical upgrades are commonplace for the games that defined our 8-bit and 16-bit gaming experiences.

The advent of digital distribution means we've seen fewer old-school complication packs in recent years, but Sega's giving it another go with "Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection," announced yesterday, and containing over 40 classic Sega games.

The press release said the games had been "reproduced with the utmost detail and accuracy to the original games" but could also be displayed at HD resolutions with updated graphics. The screens I saw looked a bit muddy.

So, what if I wanted these games on a single disc but with their original graphical stylings in tact?

Even though the press release didn't say it, Sega confirmed to MTV Multiplayer that "Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection" will include the original visuals, as well.

If you enjoy the HD upgrade, have fun, but if it bothers you, there's no problem, either. Win-win, right?

"Cave Story," an old-school 2D platformer created and produced by Daisuke "Pixel" Amaya, is one of gaming's biggest indie success stories.

But Amaya hasn't seen a dime from his work on "Cave Story." He released the game as freeware on the PC. Once people fell in love, they started porting "Cave Story" to others platforms -- PSP, Mac, everything.

There had been no movement on producing a proper port of "Cave Story" until Nicalis Inc. head honcho Tyrone Rodriguez decided to make Pixel a pitch.

His pitch started simple enough. Read more...

Fans have clamored for a third "Ghostbusters" film for years, but it's never happened. One reasons is because actor Bill Murray (aka Peter Venkman) was against it.

But in recent weeks, that's started to change. Writers behind "The Office" are working on a script for a brand-new "Ghostbusters."

The question has been whether Murray will show up for it. It looks like he very well might, actually, and the reason comes from an unlikely source: the video game.

Movie site Ain't It Cool News attended Fantastic Fest this week, where Murray made a surprise appearance to promote his new movie, "City of Ember." During a Q&A, someone asked him about his thoughts on the proposed "Ghostbusters III." And that's where the game comes in…

"[Murray] also went on to say that his enthusiasm for Ghostbusters was heightened after recording the voice of Peter Venkman for the video game over the summer. In fact, he said he found himself walking down the street singing the Ghostbusters theme song and then thought people walking around him were going to start yelling at him to "get over yourself, Bill," so he stopped... But the enthusiasm was there. "

As a fellow "Ghostbusters" fanboy, this has me extremely excited. Now, we just need news on who's picking up the publishing rights to the "Ghostbusters" game.

With "Mega Man 9" dropping next week, we're not going to make it through the entire old school "Mega Man" games before the new sequel drops.

But at least we're ending on a high note. "Mega Man 5" is the best in the series after "Mega Man" and "Mega Man 2." It's also the most challenging.

Part of that comes from subtle tributes paid to those games in the design of "Mega Man 5." Part of it because it's just a really good platformer.

There are few 2D games more hardcore than "Metal Slug." And even though the arcade scene has died out, "Metal Slug" continues on.

MTV Multiplayer was provided with a set of exclusive screens from "Metal Slug 7." From Ignition Entertainment, the DS game will hit stores on November 18.

While the DS hardware means the sprites have been scaled down, it looks like the insanity the series is known for is still in tact.
