Wolftenstein: the New Order

I have, in all likelihood, straight-up merked untold thousands of humanoid enemies over the course of my digital career, but I've never really felt comfortable blasting away at animals. Even as a kid, shooting "Wolfenstein 3D"'s pixelated German Shepherds was more problematic for me than gruesomely dispatching mecha-Hitler

Cyber vigilante Aiden Pearce cuts a very conspicuous figure on the mean streets of Chicago with his mask tucked up on his face and baseball cap pulled over his eyes. It's a frankly bad-circa-2005 character design in what looks like an otherwise impressive game.

You can check out more screens featuring some of the game's AR effects after the jump.

It looks like old B.J. Blazkowicz will have to face off against the Nazis in an alternate history 1960s* in the upcoming return to the series from MachineGames and publisher Bethesda.

And it's coming next year from Swedish developer MachineGames, home to a bunch of former Starbreeze devs (the folks behind "The Chronicles of Riddick" and the first "Darkness" game). In the short and sweet press release (no story details, nada), Bethesda described the shooter as "a eimagining of this franchise – offering players a gripping and dramatic experience," and it's being developed using id Tech 5.
