Call of Duty Black Ops

You may recall that, earlier this week, I wrote a story entitled "Call of Duty: Black Ops" Supports 3D, But You Should Ignore This Fact. It basically consisted of me explaining that a recent 3D presentation of Activision's shooter made the game look way worse than it did when I saw it running in regular old 2D. It seems that Activision and Treyarch read the piece and were convinced that something must have been technically wrong with the set-up. So convinced, in fact, that they asked me to meet with them a second time to see if they could remedy the problem.

To be completely honest, I was fully prepared for the same horrible ghosting and doubling that my first demo was plagued with. Turns out Activision and Treyarch were right, as my second time through the same demo looked a heck of a lot better.

DeathSpank

On the heels of the new "DeathSpank" sequel's release for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, EA has opted to break the original game out for PC and Mac users as well. Pre-orders will be taken and come with a 10% discount over Steam, and even more discounting will be made available if you buy it bundled with "Shank."

Medal of Honor

That "Medal of Honor" beta for PC opened up to everyone just as it EA said it would, so you're welcome to give it a try before it shuts down at 11:59 pm (PDT) on Thursday. The public test was intended to counteract some bad publicity the game has received recently, as was the the decision to ax the title "Taliban" from multiplayer in favor of the faction name "Opposing Force." Unfortunately for EA, neither of these moves appear to have been enough to get U.S. Army and Air Force base stores to stock the game internationally.

Duke Nukem Forever

Now that Gearbox has revived "Duke Nukem Forever" for a 2011 release, they're hoping they can leverage the legendary title's decade of hype to sell a few more copies of the "Borderlands" Game of the Year Edition. Buyers will be able to gain early access to "DNF" via membership in the "Duke Nukem Forever" First Access Club.

Call of Duty Black Ops

UPDATE: A second demonstration of "Call of Duty: Black Ops" in 3D revealed that there must have been something technically wrong with this first demo. You can read my much-improved second-look impressions here.

ORIGINAL STORY: Activision revealed to the world today that this holiday's cash cow, "Call of Duty: Black Ops," would support stereoscopic 3D graphics for those with compatible televisions and glasses. It's a neat idea for a game that's so cinematic, and since 3D is all the rage these days, it makes sense that Activision and Treyarch would attempt to jump on the bandwagon. Unfortunately, playing "Black Ops" in 3D is a detriment to the game's experience and is a feature that should be ignored.

Super Meat Boy

It takes a special kind of person to like a game like "Super Meat Boy," the upcoming 2D platformer from indie developer Team Meat. The kind of person who, despite having years of honed video game reflexes, also has a tremendous amount of patience and precision. Being able to no-scope someone in "Halo Reach" is no help in "Super Meat Boy," nor is having a gamerscore well over 100,000. This game will kick your ass, and if you're the right sort of person, you'll keep coming back for more.

Fallout New Vegas system requirements

"Fallout: New Vegas" will have cyborg dog companions, gambling achievements and an introduction narrated by Ron Perlman, but as with all games on the PC, it will also demand a few things from your machine. There's good news, too, because the minimum hardware specs listed shouldn't require anything too brand new or top-of-the-line.

World of WarCraft

A lot of people take vacation in December, traveling to far off lands to get away from their everyday lives. Many of those people, it seems, will be spending the chilly months in the varied lands of Azeroth, and the next expansion pack for "World of WarCraft," "Cataclysm," is scheduled for release on December 7. How kind of Blizzard to wait until all the major holiday releases are out before dropping the "WoW" bomb on all of us!

StarCraft 2

You can't say they didn't warn you. After warning players to respect the Terms of Use agreement that they probably didn't read (because really, who reads that thing anyway?), Blizzard has acted and banned 5,000 accounts from playing "StarCraft 2" over Battle.net. Even if they could claim ignorance about what was in the Terms of Use Agreement, those banned likely deserved what they got, as there's nothing that ruins the competition in a community more than people with an unfair advatange. Heck, that's why I stopped playing "Modern Warfare 2." That, and I didn't particularly like people shooting me in the face.

Medal of Honor Taliban

EA's "Medal of Honor" reboot has been the subject of a very public debate this year over the game's option to let users play as Taliban fighters during multiplayer matches. Up until this point, the company's official responses have defended the move while trying to remain sympathetic to concerns from U.S. servicemen and women and their friends and families, but they've ultimately decided to eliminate the name Taliban from multiplayer confrontations.
