Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson returned to his WWE roots last night as the host of Wrestlemania. For the last several years, though, his career has been strictly on the silver screen...with varying degrees of success. Gamers often shudder when his name is brought up, if only because he was the star in the unfortunate "DOOM" film. And then there was his attempt to star in a "Spy Hunter" movie that never really happened (though Midway did manage to release a "Spy Hunter" video game tie-in starring Johnson that should've met a similar fate).

magicka: vietnam

If you haven't played "Magicka" then you're missing out. It's a PC game, so you'll need to be able to run it first. It's no "Crysis," but the variety of dazzlingly explosive effects that are on display require a decent amount of horsepower. The game is all about magic; using it, combining it, being careful not to blow yourself up with it. There's no mana bar or anything like that, just the constant danger of accidentally obliterating yourself. This danger doubles (or more) when you add co-op players to the mix. Now Arrowhead Game Studios has set a release date for its upcoming, and totally bizarre, "Magicka" add-on, "Magicka: Vietnam."

No, this is not an April Fool's joke.

the elder scrolls 5 skyrim

"Elder Scrolls" is not a series that is known for its multiplayer. No, that's not exactly accurate. "Elder Scrolls" flat-out doesn't have multiplayer. People continue to ask for it though, because playing games online with friends is fun! In a new interview, "The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim" director Todd Howard discusses exactly why, despite fan requests, time and again the decision is made to skip multiplayer in favor of other features.

saints row the third

We're now two "Saints Row" games in, so Volition Inc. has a pretty good feel for how this all works by now. It's like "Grand Theft Auto," but crude. That fact is highlighted in the debut teaser for Volition's upcoming sequel, "Saints Row: The Third." Just don't blink. You'll almost definitely miss it if you do.

Max Payne 3

It's been really quiet on the "Max Payne 3" front ever since the game was first revealed in, wow, March of 2009. At that time it was actually planned for a Winter 2009 release, but clearly they were a bit off the mark. Now, here we are, two years later, and we've got...two new screenshots! The first is up top, the second is after the break.

battlefield 3

There are two big items to bring you today regarding DICE's upcoming sequel, "Battlefield 3." First is a new gameplay trailer, Fault Lines - Episode 3, which follows the footage released in the first and second episodes. All of the footage shown so far, including today's trailer, comes from an alpha demo that Electronic Arts has been showing since shortly before GDC 2011 earlier this month. There's also an odd sort of non-denial that "Battlefield 3" will feature a hefty campaign mode, one which carries an expected 12-hour playtime.

GIRP

Some hardcore gamers scoff at Flash games for being too easy. After all, anyone can build a successful farming enterprise with enough time. But that over 2.0 kill/death ratio in "Black Ops"? That took sheer talent! Well, Captain Hardcore, why don't you try your hand at "QWOP" and "GIRP," two games designed to make even the most skilled no-scoper weep like a small baby.

star wars the old republic

"Star Wars: The Old Republic" is the game that promises -- BioWare and Electronic Arts hope -- to turn story-loving RPG fans into massively multiplayer monthly subscribers. Basically, they're looking to deliver the bastard child of "Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic" and "World of Warcraft." And that's perfectly okay by this "Star Wars" fan. The latest trailer speaks directly to that, looking at a variety of Jedi character classes and armor sets which all carry a strong tie to "KOTOR."
