Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs

A recent delay notwithstanding, news from thechineseroom on "Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs" has been scant, and you'll not hear me complaining. It's not so much that I've forgotten about "Amnesia" as that I've tried my best to repress the memory of its existence: a swine crucifixion just plain gives me the willies.

Shelter

Swedish indie outfit Might & Delight have been more-or-less quiet since releasing a trailer for "Shelter" earlier this summer, but the charming badger simulator has been embedded in my brain ever since. Luckily, our long national nightmare of not playing a naturalistic stealth-survival badger game is coming to an end soon: Might & Delight have announced that "Shelter" will be available on PC and Mac on August 28.

Lilly Looking Through

There are two things that you always hear about point-and-click adventure games: either they're "dead," or they're experiencing an indie resurgence. I think it's more accurate to say that they never really disappeared at all: the spotlight may have moved on, but companies like TellTale, Wadjet Eye, Amanita Design, and Daedalus have been tending the flock capably.

New to the fold might be Geeta Games: their first project, "Lilly Looking Through" tripled its Kickstarter goal and is pushing hard for a release on Steam via Greenlight.

Torment: Tides of Numenera

"Torment: Tides of Numenera," inXile Entertainment's follow-up to Black Isle's seminal "Planescape: Torment," is still over a year away from release. Its Kickstarter page promises a December 2014 delivery date, but let's be real: Brian Fargo & Co. are in the thick of finishing up the recently-delayed "Wasteland 2," and "Numenera" is still in the early stages of pre-production. This game isn't coming out before 2015.

Still, some fascinating details about inXile's attempt to modernize the old-school role-playing game are starting to emerge, and they'll just have to do for now.
