I can sum up my somewhat limited play time with Capcom's latest "Monster Hunter" game in one sentence- "Monster Hunter 3: Ultimate" is the perfect game for a summer break. Those are still a thing, right? I mean it's been a while but I'm pretty sure that in some parts, children and teens still get a solid two month block of time to play outside, or rather in many cases, toil away at their gaming obsessions. Don't get me wrong, the life of a gaming blogger is pretty OK. But, with only a limited number of hours in the day, and many job responsibilities, I simply cannot devote hours upon hours on single game as I have with some game in particular.

Take "Skyrim" for instance; I've easily clocked hundreds of real life hours. While this is somewhat of an aberration of my typical gaming habits, the lure there was built on exploration and playing at my own pace without a focus for random drops and obfuscated systems. In this way "Monster Hunter 3: Ultimate" hit a little too close to a genre of games I've fallen out of love with - The Japanese Role Playing Game.  I don't want this to be an East vs. West piece, but I wanted to impress a little from where I'm coming. I'll get into this in a bit.

So in that spirit, I have to be up front, that this will not be a full review of "Monster Hunter 3: Ultimate." Instead, I'll lay out a few quick impressions over the dozen or so hours I've spent gathering herbs, making traps, forging weapons, and - most importantly - tracking and slaying dangerous monsters.

What does the future holds for video games? It's one of the most important questions of our time, so we asked one of gaming's greatest minds, Shigeru Miyamoto, and he thinks it's connectivity. "Evolving beyond being the experience that simply comes in the package, and becoming something that becomes more a part of lifestyle through connections to the network."

In a recent interview where Mr. Miyamoto also told us his thoughts on "Hyrule Historia," noted some of his favorite Famicom games, and spoke at length about Luigi, he gave us some insight into the thinking behind where some of Nintendo games are headed in the near future.

2013 is going to be a big year for Mario’s little brother, Luigi, so much so that Nintendo has already taken to calling it "The Year of Luigi." Never really one to steal the spotlight from Mario, Luigi has always been a secondary character for the franchise, but, that still makes him arguably one of the biggest names in video games... ever. Between the release of "Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon" on March 24, the upcoming "New Super Luigi U" expansion pack, and his role in a host of other Nintendo games on both the Wii U and 3DS, Luigi is set to have an unprecedented presence this year, which should make his faithful followers, both inside and outside of Nintendo very happy. We recently had a chance to ask Luigi’s creator, Shigeru Miyamoto, some questions about the origins of everyone’s favorite green-shirted plumber, and we learned that there’s a lot more to Luigi than you might think.

Kersploosh

The act of throwing a rock down a well is a childhood activity that most people superimpose into their memories, because, really, how many people have ever seen a real, working well? It's such a basic concept - take a rock, throw it down a well, hear a splash. That's really all there is to it. But, what if there was pizza down that well blocking the way? Or maybe there's a big fan slowing your rock down? What if the rock you were throwing wasn’t really a rock at all, and instead it's a Russian nesting doll? Those are the kinds of questions that developers Poi Soft are trying to answer in their newly localized 3DS eShop game "Kersploosh!"
