Nintendo tells us that the upcoming "The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds" for the 3DS takes place in the same world as the SNES classic, Legend of Zelda: The Link To The Past, and it certainly looks that way upon first glance.

But given the differences in gameplay and art style, among other things (especially how the concept art recently changed, as Tiny Cartridge first observed), many are naturally curious as to how similar the environments truly are. Turns out, they're fairly close.

It can be hard to believe that the Nintendo DS is almost ten years old. What is easier to believe is that studios like AlphaDream have gained a lot of experience with Nintendo's touch-friendly dual screen hardware. This experience begets imagination, the kind one would see in 'Mario & Luigi: Dream Team'.

The game's setting is a new, but familiar-looking over world called Pi'illo, a resort that doesn't look that much different from other lands in the Mario universe. It's a curious place has its own history, with relics in the shape of pillows, often connected to a dream world. It's the backdrop that heavy-handedly delivers the premise of a slumbering Luigi.

Mario & Luigi: Dream Team

Anyone that has played a "Mario & Luigi" game can tell you that Mario and Luigi aren't the only familiar faces in the games. Over the course of the three games that have been released in the series ("Superstar Saga," "Partners In Time," and "Bowser's Inside Story"), and the one that will drop next week ("Dream Team") the Mario Brothers have run into countless friendly, and not so friendly, faces in their RPG journeys. However, throughout all of the games, there have always been new characters introduced that tend to be specific to the stories told in these franchises, and because they are so unique to these games, those characters will almost never venture outside of a "Mario & Luigi" game.New characters in the Mario Universe is actually a pretty big deal, and the ones that show up in “Mario & Luigi” usually tend to play very important roles within these games, and it turns out, that's by design.
