I Played The Chuck Norris Video Game

Chuck Norris kicked my butt.

In his mobile phone game, that is. While in GameLoft’s pimped-out hummer during E3, I got to play the new Chuck Norris mobile phone game called “Chuck Norris: Bring The Pain.

Made in conjunction with cult website ChuckNorrisFacts.com and the Texas Ranger himself, the game includes loading screens that give such great Chuck-isms as “On Chuck Norris’ phone, there are no loading times” or “Chuck Norris makes onions cry.”

As for the story, the game is a classic beat-em-up that revolves around the martial arts hero rescuing hostages and saving America from the invading Communist threat. I played the first level where the rogue Soviet army was holding POWs hostage in Cambodia, using the 2, 6 and 8 buttons to navigate as well as 5 to fire Chuck’s weapon at enemies.

And who are said enemies? Me! Read more…

See The Who Live In Concert From The Front Row (’Rock Band’ Party Photos)

Last night The Who performed at the Orpheum Theatre in downtown Los Angeles for a crowd of 1,000 people at Harmonix’s E3 “Rock Band” bash. The legendary band played a two-hour set including classics like “My Generation,” “Behind Blue Eyes,” “Who Are You,” “The Seeker,” “The Kids Are Alright,” “Pinball Wizard,” “Baba O’Riley,” “Won’t Get Fooled Again” and many more. Basically, it was the best concert ever.

I was lucky enough to sit in the front row with Kotaku’s Brian Crecente and GameLife’s Chris Kohler. Check out all my photos on MTV’s flickr page.

Watch Don King Say His New Game is “Bumpety Bump”

“I can’t believe that having said what I said was interpreted as having been what I said when I said it, because I said it where I said it, when I said it, and who I said it to,” renowned boxing promoter Don King reputedly once said.

With that in mind, here are some more words of wisdom from Mr. King, since we just couldn’t fit all his phrases in our interview about his new video game “Prizefighter.”

Don King Challenges MTV

A man once said, “If you didn’t have Don King, you’d have to invent him.” And the man who said that? Er, that was Don King.

The legendary boxing promoter came around to tell us (actually, more like yell at us) about his new video game “Don King Presents Prizefighter” by 2K Sports, in stores this week. Watch the video interview to learn just why “there’ve been many boxers to enter the ring, but there’s only one King.”

Ghostbusters Game Built To Offer Scares Or Laughs Every 15 Feet

Like fellow Multiplayer reporter Patrick Klepek, I too grew up with the “Ghostbusters” films and plastic Proton Packs. So when I saw the Egon, Ray and Winston battling apparitions and making quips in the New York Public Library — all rendered on the PS3 — I was taken aback.

It was like watching a long-lost “Ghostbusters” sequel.

Too Edgy For Wii, Carmen Electra May Pole Dance On Xbox 360

Peekaboo Pole Dancing wants gamers to enjoy their upcoming pole dancing video game.

But they’re not exactly sure which gamers just yet.

The company behind the best-selling Carmen Electra pole dancing kit, the “Electra Pole,” announced in April that they were seeking partners to create a pole dancing game for the Wii.

However, yesterday when I met Simon Kay, a rep for Peekaboo and licensing agency AT New Media, he revealed that the company wasn’t quite sure which platform to go with yet.

“The concept is still up for discussion,” he told me at the Javits Center in New York during the Licensing International Expo. “Do we want to skew male or female? That depends on the platform we choose.”

The way he sees it, the video game could go one of two ways…

Live Action ‘Turok’ Movie Planned

Get ready for more “Turok.” Our colleagues at the MTV Movies Blog have learned that a live-action version of the comic book and video game character is in the works.

The news was revealed by “Flags of our Fathers” and eventual “Turok” actor Adam Beach. “We just finished the animated movie and now we’re going into the feature film movie [which should lens] hopefully in a couple years. We’re about to set up meetings to develop a script and put it out there,” he said. “I’ll have to beef up, and be a good guy, and save the world!”

The animated film Beech refers to is the already-released “Turok: Son of Stone,” in which he voiced Turok himself. He voiced Turok in the recent game, as well, and seems excited to continue the role on the big screen a few years from now.

Readers, are you excited about the idea of a live-action “Turok”?

‘The Bourne Conspiracy’ Tonight on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’

The latest entry in the ongoing “feud” between actor Matt Damon and late night show host Jimmy Kimmel premieres tonight on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”

I know this because the PR team behind this week’s “The Bourne Conspiracy” told me. There’s good reason to suspect “The Bourne Conspiracy” will be featured as part of tonight’s joke, even though Damon wasn’t involved with the game.

Maybe that’s part of the joke!

“Jimmy Kimmel Live!” runs weeknights on ABC.

How British Comedian Ricky Gervais Found Himself At A Comedy Club In ‘Grand Theft Auto IV’

Ricky GervaisWere you as surprised as we were when “The Office” creator Ricky Gervais took the stage in “Grand Theft Auto IV”’s comedy club? How exactly did that come about?

MTV News’ Vanessa Whitewolf recently caught up with the British comedian to find out. In the beginning, Gervais actually passed on the project.

“Well, they called up my agent, and like [I say for] most things, I went, ‘Nahhh,’ ” the comic revealed to MTV News. “And then they said, ‘Are you mad? This is the biggest thing in the world. You’re crazy.’ ”

Hollywood Talent Group Reports Matt Damon Passed On Games Several Times

Matt DamonI just filed a report with MTV News about this week’s Multiplayer stories on Matt Damon’s decision to turn down becoming involved with “The Bourne Conspiracy.”

But it also includes some new information about Damon’s previous brushes with games.

Blindlight, a company specializing in connecting game publishers with Hollywood talent, contacted me yesterday. Blindlight said it’s not the first time Damon passed on games.

“We’ve been doing this for over eight years — we have more experience in this field than any other company — and by now we’ve made offers to just about every Hollywood name you can think of,” said Blindlight general manager Lev Chapelsky. “When it comes to Damon, we’ve [made] several game offers to him over the years and have consistently found that he’s not interested in working in the field.”

Blindlight is responsible for hooking Robert Downey Jr. up with Sega’s “Iron Man” game and for Edward Norton working on “The Incredible Hulk” (also a Sega game).

If you missed my earlier stories, my MTV News report will have you up to speed.

Update: Matt Damon Didn’t Speak Directly To ‘Bourne’ Developers, Wanted A Game Like ‘Myst’

The Bourne ConspiracyWe reported yesterday that Matt Damon passed on the opportunity to be involved with the development of “The Bourne Conspiracy” because of the game’s level of violence.

That’s the impression we took away from an event held by Sierra a few weeks back.

There’s more to that story, we’re now told.

High Moon head of product research and globalization Meelad Sadat contacted MTV Multiplayer to further clarify Damon’s involvement. Sadat said High Moon didn’t meet one-on-one with Damon. While the actor never explicitly said he was passing due to the violent content, that was Sadat’s impression at the time, so that’s the impression I came away with during our earlier conversation and used to write the story that appeared on this blog yesterday.

“We got the sense that his interest in games overall was marginal, and we decided to move away from celebrity involvement and take our Bourne into an original direction,” said Sadat.

A quote from Damon in an article from The Boston Globe earlier this month further clarifies the situation. The article’s focus is on Damon’s mother, Nancy Carlsson-Paige, and her views on violence in the media. Damon, however, is interviewed and references his involvement with “The Bourne Conspiracy.”

“I lobbied hard [with the video producers] to not make a first-person shooter game but to make it more like Myst, which was a great interesting puzzle you tried to solve - you know, to play with his amnesia or his memory,” he told the publication. “They weren’t interested. They made the video anyway, without my likeness.”

As the article notes in brackets (a journalistic tool to add unsaid clarification), Damon didn’t explicitly say he talked to the developers of the game. The author of the story added that extra detail, which High Moon tells us is an error.

Though Damon never met with High Moon to express any sentiments, it appears the original story’s conclusion that Damon passed due to violence appears correct.

When Celebrities Game: ‘SingStar’ Edition

I’m a little bummed I wasn’t near Palm Springs, California for Coachella this past weekend. I’d have seen my hero, Prince, perform and even play some “LittleBigPlanet.” But I can live vicariously through pictures. Sony dropped “SingStar” on PlayStation 3 into a T-Mobile after party, and passed on some choice sightings of celebrities gaming. One such example is shown above.

Also at the event were Carmen Electra, Paris Hilton, Benji Madden, Nikki Hilton, David Katzenberg, Jaime Lynn Sigler, Danny Masterson, DJ Aoki, DJ AM, Bijou Phillips, and “many more,” but I couldn’t find many pictures of them actually playing “SingStar.” See what I did find after the jump.
