The final DLC for the loot and shoot sequel has finally been released. While I've had my problems with past add-ons, there is something to be said with Gearbox's dedication to bring more and more of what fans love. Promising more of everything, this last quest thrusts your fearless vault hunter (and three friends) into a fantastical world of high adventure -- all wrapped up inside the mind of a disturbed child.

The first "Borderlands" provided hours upon hours of content that only got larger with three excellent (and one kinda OK) expansions. With the launch of "Borderlands 2," Vault Hunters all over the world knew they'd be in for a treat after the main game was over with even more content courtesy of a DLC season pass. Tweaked (that's Twitter Leaked) earlier, we learned that Tiny Tina would be taking a larger storytelling role and, as the DLC name suggests, it looks we'll be in for another wild ride thanks to Gearbox.

The character that immediately reached out to me when the first "Borderlands" dropped was Brick -- a loud, explosive meatloaf of a man whose solution to all of life's problems (including difficult math) was punching it in its stupid face. Admittedly, not the best character in that game to solo but definitely right up my ally as far as playstyle is concerned -- run in, rage out, punch everything to death, and (sometimes) get revived by more prudent players. Learning that the original four characters wouldn't return, I was a bit dissappointed by the loss of my favorite vault hunter and his successor -- Salvador the Gunzerker -- just didn't quite click with me.

Here's where Krieg comes in to play. As the second DLC character, Gearbox goes out with a literal bang with a psycho killer that has a taste for blood. In my mind, he is the very essence of how "Borderlands(2)" was meant to be played -- balls to the wall, spitting in the face of sanity, and generally not giving a flying f*ck about life or death!

Over the weekend, Gearbox Software president and magician Randy Pitchford tweeted to fans that there is a “100% chance of a level cap increase this year” for his company’s popular first-person shooter and RPG hybrid “Borderlands 2,” reiterating similar comments made by the game’s producer last month.

Pitchford followed up, though, by noting the chances are “ 50\50 on unforeseen consequences,” referring to a series of design problems the studio has run into while designing the update, detailed in a VentureBeat interview last week. Pitchford was blunt when describing the balancing and scaling issues that comes with raising the game’s level cap: “We’re gonna break our f**king game if we change the math.”

If you’ve got $15 burning holes in your presumably deep pockets, Gearbox has some new “Borderlands 2” customization options to sell you. Fifteen packs of new skins and heads -- three for each character -- are now available to any and all fashionable Vault Hunters.

Each pack will include one skin and one head for one character and cost $0.99. There are three “themes” available: Domination, Madness, and Supremacy. That header image, for example, contains the Madness set.

Let me guess -- you hit level fifty about halfway through your second playthrough of “Borderlands 2,” and you’re feeling the slightest bit crabby that, three DLCs later, your Gunzerker hasn’t gained any experience or new skills since about November.

Never fear! According to an Official PlayStation Magazine interview with Gearbox producer James Lopez, a level cap increase is coming sometime before the end of March. “We do have one planned, and it will be for quite a few levels, which will allow you to play for quite a bit longer,” Lopez said. “We also have a plan for Q1.”

Lopez went on to explain that the new SHiFT system, implemented as a way for Gearbox to distribute special items and customization skins to “Borderlands 2” players is providing the studio with enough statistics to really nail down the timing.

As with the first "Borderlands", Gearbox continues the tradition of offering a ton of additional content for their popular shoot-n-loot series. With two pretty solid DLCs "Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate's Booty" and "Mr. Torgue's Campaign of Carnage" Gearbox hopes to keep that fire burning for ever better drops and crazier enemy encounters. The third add-on certainly checks off each box on the list before locking and loading, but does it hit the mark? Find out with our review for "Sir Hammerlock's Big Game Hunt."
