It's that time of year where we celebrate the memorable games from the last year. The best, the best-looking, the one's that kept us on the edge of our seat, and the ones that nearly had us tossing the controller in frustration. Be sure to check out the other MTV Multiplayer Best of 2012 lists!

After considering the best across the three major platforms (we're sorry PC, we'll do you justice next year), it's time to look back at the absolute best gaming had to offer in 2012. Will "The Walking Dead" take home yet another Best of award? Or maybe a dark horse contender like "Hitman: Absolution" just caused us to throw up our hands, declare it a masterpiece, and opt to get on with 2013.

We've been celebrating some of the great gaming moments of 2012, but what about those not-so-great bits? The games (or companies) that failed spectacularly? A ridiculous piece of communication from a zealous producer or marketing flack that almost doomed the game from the beginning?

Let's looks back on the worst gaming moments of last year before celebrating the absolutely positively best that it had to offer.

MTV Multiplayer's Best Wii U Games of 2012

Editor's Note: This list is pretty much a plagiarization of Jason's fantastic "Five Wii U Games You Should Be Playing At Launch" post.

I mean really, Nintendo's quirky mix of tablet and console has only been out a short while, so I haven't got to play that many games yet. That being said, my experiences with the few I have had the pleasure to jump into have more or less sold me on a future for Nintendo. Also, take note that this is a truncated list compared to Charles' top 10 games of Xbox 360 and PS3. As making a list of the best offerings for any console is difficult enough (especially for one who plays internal mind games of Devil's advocate), there's a little ease in the pressure dispite a decently sized launch lineup. So without further ado, here are the best games of 2012 for the Wii U!

MTV Multiplayer's Best Characters Of 2012

When you're spending six to 60 hours in a game, the characters you play and the characters around you need to be a little dangerous, a little scary, a little vulnerable--but maybe not all in the same person.

So which character stuck with us the most even after the game was over? Maybe they scared us a little; maybe we we afraid what would happen to them once the credits started to roll; maybe we hoped we could play as them again in the future.

These are our picks for the best characters of 2012.

Let's celebrate the PS3 and Sony--because after the rocky patch they had in 2012, the publisher and software giant needs it. If I had trouble picking 360 exclusives to focus on in yesterday's post, it's the opposite here--Sony's raft of PS3-exclusives provided a ridiculous number of thoughtful, funny, strange, and ultimately killer games this year (at least digitally--first party AAA titles were another story).

Let's look back at the excellent games that made their way to the PS3 in 2012.

Happy New Year! Our Game Industry Resolutions For 2013

Yesterday, we looked back at some of our hopes for the game industry from the beginning of 2012. This time around, I've put together a wish list for the big brains at each of the big three console makers.

Why aren't the PC and iOS represented? Well, both of those represent a disparate set of interests. While Apple as a a hardware maker is a channel through which games are delivered, they're not (at present) in the making of games business. And the PC--well, everyone making excellent PC games, just keep doing that times infinity.

So with that in mind, let's take a look at what we're hoping Sony, MS, and Nintendo will get up to in 2013.

MTV Multiplayer's Best Xbox 360 Games of 2012

This is my second year putting together a best of list for games, and it's tricky task when two of the three home consoles on the market share so much retail and digital content. Barring a terrible port, what am I supposed to say--that "XCOM" was one of the best games on the 360, while the particulars of my list on the PS3 might not allow it to chart? It's a problem of having a lot of great games to play this year and multiple places to play them (I'm not overlooking the PC or the Wii U, they just offer something different and uniquely diverse on their platforms),

With that said, here we are at the end of the year, and it's time to say something about the last 12 months. So let's look back and see what rose to the top on Microsoft's console.
