I want to tell you about all the cool stuff that I found in 2K Marin's XCOM origin story "The Bureau" but I've been sworn to secrecy. Not really though. No one black bagged my head or anything like that but I don't want to get all spoiler-y about what I saw last Friday. My previous impressions more or less stay the same -- "The Bureau" is a love letter of the hysteria induced Cold War merged with the Space Race of the 1960's with an extraterrestrial twist. It also fills the wide gaps in story of previous XCOM games as this takes the franchise to its roots. So instead of rehashing gameplay mechanics I thought I'd paint a picture of the atmosphere of "The Bureau."

In many ways "The Bureau" is like that Norman Rockwell painting of Thanksgiving dinner except replace that deliciously crisp turkey with a burnt husk of a Sectoid. Hearkening back to the tinfoil and duct tape era of NASA meshed with classic 50/60s Americana gives this game its flavor. These are the desperate first hours of a nation (and world) under attack by a tremendously powerful opponent.

The-Bureau-xcom-declassified-high-res-06

I've gushed over my love of "XCOM" and 2K Marin's prequel "The Bureau" is looking to shape up nicely -- especially given the shakey reception way back during that 2010 E3 when fans learned that it would be a third person shooter.  At any rate, slowly but surely 2K has been leaking info on their top secret tactical shooter and today they're running a live stream of gameplay and developer answers on Twitch. In fact, as you're reading these very words I'll be sequestered deep in 2K's HQ playing a whole bunch of "The Bureau" (you're jealous I know). But if you can't wait until more impressions you can get in on the otherworldly action right now!

The final DLC for the loot and shoot sequel has finally been released. While I've had my problems with past add-ons, there is something to be said with Gearbox's dedication to bring more and more of what fans love. Promising more of everything, this last quest thrusts your fearless vault hunter (and three friends) into a fantastical world of high adventure -- all wrapped up inside the mind of a disturbed child.

2KG_XCOMEUIOS_REVIEW_01

For the last several years the gulf between mobile and "real" games has been rapidly closing. Originally, players seeking full fledged experiences on their phones and tablets had to settle for bite sized, simple games. These mobile games aren't bad in that regard -- in fact some of them are downright fun -- but they lacked the robust mechanics and scope from larger, big budget games. Enter the iPad; a powerful tablet that can finally deliver these larger titles without compromising on the gameplay. I've been amazed with what kind of games are now available since the mobile devices' launch.

Previously, I got a few moments with 2K China's iOS version of "XCOM: EU," and generally speaking I enjoyed it. The big worry with translating AAA titles to tablet is that too much will be cut or or it just won't work. With "XCOM: Enemy Unknown" for iPad, the devs were able to shrink the full experience onto the small screen.

A few weeks ago we learned the most excellent news that "XCOM: EU" was headed to iOS It's no secret over here at Multiplayer that we loves us some XCOM -- it was our GOTY for 2012 after all. -- and more importantly I got a chance to tap out commands in an effort to snuff the alien invasion.

The first "Borderlands" provided hours upon hours of content that only got larger with three excellent (and one kinda OK) expansions. With the launch of "Borderlands 2," Vault Hunters all over the world knew they'd be in for a treat after the main game was over with even more content courtesy of a DLC season pass. Tweaked (that's Twitter Leaked) earlier, we learned that Tiny Tina would be taking a larger storytelling role and, as the DLC name suggests, it looks we'll be in for another wild ride thanks to Gearbox.

Irrational Games have released Part 2 of their “BioShock Infinite” documentary, “Columbia: A Modern Day Icarus?” This one is about the Songbird, the dual-purposed, leather-bound monster that simultaneously keeps invaders out of the flying city of Columbia while keeping its most dangerous resident -- the time-hopping, dimension-shredding Elizabeth -- in.
