Of all the first party publishers, Nintendo is holding their cards closest to their chest in regards to what they have planned for next week's E3. Their secrecy has lead to a lot of rumors and conjectures across the internet of what they are planning on showing.
Their secrecy, mixed with a bit of potential, has lead to today's retro '120 Seconds.' I have a hope that my one prediction of what Nintendo may be unveiling will be dead on - the follow up to one of the most successful DS games to date. Hopefully, by this time next week the only thing that Nintendo fanboys will be able to talk about is "New Super Mario Bros. 2."
In hopes that "NSMB2" is one of the big announcements of next week, we are taking a look back at the first two minutes of Mario's first two portable adventures "Super Mario Land," and "Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins." Enjoy these classics courtesy of my Super Gameboy (and please excuse the colors).
"Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins" is after the jump.

This week's addition to the WiiWare catalog is the title "SPOGS Racing" from D2C Games. You operate a Sports Player Object Gyro (S.P.O.G.) as you race against your competitors around the track. As this week's only WiiWare release, it has to carry the entire burden of Nintendo's download service, solely on it's back. Check out the first '120 Seconds' of gameplay, and see how well it handles that responsibility.

"Alone in the Dark," Atari's latest release on the Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii, follows in the tradition of all of the "Alone in the Dark" games that came before it. It's creepy. In the first playable '120 Seconds' of the game you get to see one of the most creative gameplay mechanisms in a long time - the blink.

Atlus' latest release, "Operation Darkness" combines almost every kind of character that gamers love to hate; zombies, vampires, and Hitler. Check out the first playable '120 Seconds' of the turn-based strategic RPG. It is set during an alternate take on WWII where the Nazi's team up with the undead to wreak havoc on Europe.

On the eve of America's 232 birthday, there's no better of a way to celebrate than to enjoy the first '120 Seconds' of a game starring the man that stands for everything that is great about this country, Captain America. "Captain America and The Avengers" was released for the NES in 1992, and was, unfortunately, nothing like the arcade game of the same name. Watch the video and see how Cap collects gems to unlock the exit to the level as he uses his trusty shield to take out the enemies in the level.

This week's WiiWare release is a "twist" on a classic. "Magnetica Twist" adds a few new elements to the DS game that was released a few years ago, including Mii support and motion controls. Check out the first '120 Seconds' of gameplay and see if you think I should have tried the game on hard.

Since it is an election year, it makes complete sense that there be at least one election-themed video game, and "Hail to the Chimp" (shown here on the Xbox 360) fits the bill as the only party game where animals are running for office. In the first '120 Seconds' of gameplay, you play as Ptolemy the hippopotamus as he goes around collecting as many clams as he can to win the game, and all the points associated with it. If only all elections were this easy… and fun.

After a box office topping weekend today's '120 Seconds' is the video game version of "Wall-E." In the first two playable minutes of the Xbox 360 game, Pixar's newest star motors his way around the world, following a cockroach, and improving his skills with junk he finds along the way. Keep an eye out for a quick cameo from another Pixar star off in the distance.

"Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit," is the first time the Dragon Ball series has made it to the high definition generation of consoles (on Xbox 360 and PS3), and boy does it show. The first '120 Seconds' of the game is from the first match of the campaign mode, where Goku goes head to head with Raditz. Even if you're not a fan of Dragon Ball series, watching the cell shaded battles is a pleasure for the eyes.

With rumors of the SNES classic "Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars" coming to the Virtual Console here in the States we couldn't help but include it in our Retro Thursday's '120 Seconds.' In the first two playable minutes of the game Mario is off to save the Princess, once again, from the diabolical hands of Bowser, and for the first time, enters into turn based combat with the Koopa Troopas (called "Terrapins" here for some reason).
