Call of Duty XP

Activision's first annual "Call of Duty" convention, Call of Duty XP, was already looking like a pretty good deal for fans before today. Those lucky enough to attend have been promised the first-ever look at "Modern Warfare 3" adversarial multiplayer, time to play the game, a run through a life-sized paintball course inspired by the Scrapyard level in "Modern Warfare 2" and the potential to participate in a million dollar "Black Ops" tournament. All that was being offered for the $150 entry fee, but the pot just got sweeter.

There has been a lot of talk about the "Diablo 3" beta in the last couple days. The focus has been on some of the newly-announced features, including the ability to buy items with real-world money and the precise contents of the beta, which I'll re-post below. But maybe you're stick of reading and would rather kick back and enjoy the sights, sounds and hacks of the "Diablo 3" beta in the comfort of your own home. Sorry, we can't actually let you play it just yet, but you can watch it...and that's almost as good, right? No, it really isn't.

RAGE

"RAGE" is not "Borderlands." It might look like Gearbox's FPS/RPG in screenshots and gameplay video, but the two are extremely different games. They might both have dusty, Wild West settings, dune buggies and crazed bandits wielding sharpened implements of death. They might even both be FPS games. But the core gameplay is very, very different. After all, "RAGE" is an id Software game, and that brings with it certain expectations.

Desktop Dungeons

It's been eight months since I first discovered "Desktop Dungeons." At the time it was nominated for Best Game Design at the Independent Games Festival. You may know that it went on to win that award and, as of this weekend, the game entered beta.

Diablo 3
Reporting by Kara Warner

Ever since "Diablo 2," Blizzard has been warring with companies created to take control of their games' economies. Back then people would trade valuable items for real-world through intermediaries like PayPal. The process got far more sophisticated with "World of WarCraft," as infamous gold farmers sprung up and companies formed which allowing real-world money to be traded for in-game gold. Blizzard has attempted to stem the tide of these companies, with little success. Now it seems they're following the old adage, "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em." Starting with "Diablo 3," players will be able to buy, sell and trade in-game items for real-world cash right through the game's auction house.

Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet

Exploration-heavy games like "Super Metroid" and "Castlevania: Symphony of the Night" rely on gravity to cage you in. It's only until very late in those games that flight is granted to the player, letting them comb the skies for remaining bits of undiscovered map. "Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet" goes another way. Flight is the very first thing you're given. You are UFO after all. But it's not the level of freedom that sets this title apart from its Metroid-vania predecessors. It's all about the visuals.

Diablo 3
With Reporting by Kara Warner

As we reported a few weeks ago, big news about the "Diablo 3" beta was scheduled to be released today and we're going to stick to that. Blizzard released information regarding the upcoming beta for the anticipated hack-and-slash RPG, including the contents and features contained in the beta. Unfortunately, a release date for both the beta and the full game remains a mystery.

MacBook Air

When Apple first launched the Air in 2008, it was an extraordinarily thin, but under-powered and expensive, laptop. The company's second attempt, last year's model, was much more feasible for a mainstream audience, offering a reasonable price point and great power for day-to-day activities like surfing the web and consuming media. Less than a year later, the MacBook Airs have returned. We've spent the last week testing out the 13 inch model, and if you're in the market for a new laptop, you should definitely pay attention.

Resistance 3

There are plenty of people who enjoyed "Resistance: Fall of Man." There are admittedly fewer who enjoyed "Resistance 2." But it's safe to say I am in neither of those groups. They're not bad games, mind you, but they never felt like anything much more than passable shooters. Shooters attempting to match the quality of games like "Halo" and "Call of Duty," but never quite making it.

So it was with trepidation that I began playing the first few levels of "Resistance 3" on a preview build Sony sent over. And guess what? I'm suddenly on board.
