bungie

Late last year, former "Halo" developer Bungie launched its Bungie Beta Tester program. Fans were invited to head over to the official website and sign up for a chance to participate in surveys and playtests as the developer brings together its first non-"Halo" project since the franchise began. The sign-up closed in short order... but now it's open again. So sign up! Quick!

dawn of war 2 retribution

You don't have to know the Warhammer universe to love "Warhammer 40000: Dawn of War 2 - Retribution." You do have to be a PC gamer, but provided you fulfill that requirement, there is an excellent real-time strategy game waiting to be played. The game came out last month, and Relic Entertainment has concocted an nifty way of generating additional interest in the game, with the standalone release of one of its multiplayer modes, The Last Stand.

no more heroes

"No More Heroes" might not be the very best game on the Wii, but it is certainly the wackiest. It's fun, too, since you get to swing a lightsaber-alike around and cut bad guys into little bad guy bits. An enhanced version of the game was released in Japan for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 under the title "No More Heroes: Heroes' Paradise." It is set for a PS3-exclusive port to North America and Europe later this year, but now there's a new listing in Japan for "No More Heroes: Red Zone." It's another PS360 port that adds even more content, and it's set for release on July 21.

resident evil 5

Remember how "Resident Evil 4" came out and fans went nuts because, in addition to being awesome, it tweaked a number of established genre conventions? Then "Resident Evil 5" came along and refined the great work done on the previous game, offering a graphically superior and better-tuned but overall similar experience. You could be forgiven for assuming that the inevitable "Resident Evil 6" would continue in that direction, but Capcom's got bigger plans than that for the future of the franchise.

call of duty black ops

Activision really hates fans of the Zombies mode in Treyarch's ever-popular first-person shooter, "Call of Duty: Black Ops." Why? Because the last time a map pack was released, the First Strike collection, the debut trailer offered up details on the expansion's four multiplayer maps and nothing on the new zombie map. The same happens again with a newly released trailer for the Escalation map pack, out May 3. Other than a fleeting glimpse of a snowy nighttime landscape and a lighthouse, the upcoming Escalation pack's "Call of the Dead" is left completely out of the spotlight.

law and order los angeles

After a close call in which NBC Universal put the series on hold indefinitely, Dick Wolf's latest police/courtroom procedural, "Law & Order: LA," is officially on the air as of last week. That series will never die. Especially not if it keeps popping up in other media. Like an episodic series of adventure games, which is officially happening and in the capable hands of Telltale Games, the same studio that reintroduced "Back to the Future" to a new generation of gamers.

the legend of zelda ocarina of time 3d

Last week, Nintendo finally revealed the June 19 release date for "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D." We already knew at the time that the game would include the more difficult Master Quest version of the story with its remixed dungeons, but later reports that the game would contain additional content beyond that weren't mentioned in the announcement. There's an update today revealing just what Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata was talking about when he hinted at the game being "crammed with content" back in March.
