Those in charge of the video game version of the WWE scored a home run with last year's "WWE2K13", which was steeped heavily in the World Wrestling Entertainment's most successful time period to date, the "Attitude Era".
So they knew that ha to top themselves, hence the 30 Years of WrestleMania mode, which borrows matches from the self appointed "grandest state of them all", including the aforementioned point in time in which Stone Cold Steve Austin and the Rock reigned supreme.
The mode also explores that period that came before and after; many figured the latter would be the primary focus for "WWE2K14". And at last, 2K Sports has finally revealed ever single match that one can expect.
According to the official WWE2K14 website, the mode is divided into five eras.
First there's "Hulkamania Runs Wild", which naturally highlights the Hulkster, but you also have fan favorites like the now legendary Mach Man vs Ricky Steamboat match from Wrestlemania 3. The Ultimate Warrior is also present here.
Second is the "New Generation", which is when the likes of Bret Heart and Shawn Michaels really came into their own, though it also marks the first appearance of the Phenom, aka the Undertaker.
Third up is the "Attitude Era" once again, which has Stone Cold and the Rock, plus the Undertaker and Mankind. Triple H also makes his first appearance in the mode at this point in time.
So, what's after the "Attitude Era", a question that many might be asking, since that's when many stopped watching wrestling (the entire reason for the end of the wrestling boom is a rather long one, and best found elsewhere). Why, it's called the "Ruthless Aggression" era, despite the fact that this was when mature content was toned down considerably, to make it a more family friendly product.
At any rate, this point in time is highlighted by Chris Jericho, Brock Lesnar, Edge, Batista, and the current golden boy of the WWE, John Cena. It and the following era has the most matches of the bunch, and walk down memory lane ends with the "WWE Universe" era. It stars such contemporary Superstars as Randy Orton, Alberto Del Rio, and CM Punk. Yes, you can relieve this year's match of the year, Punk vs Taker, from Wrestlemania 29.
Many have already pointed out one notable omission from the roster, that being Chris Benoit, which is somewhat understandable given what he's best known for. Though it's a shame that they couldn't sign Kurt Angle to be part of the game either.
