We all know that another season of the Mortal Kombat web series is on the way, that much has been made certain, along with plenty of details.
But what about another Mortal Kombat movie? There's been plenty of talk about that as well, but the specifics in comparision are far more hazy. Though as it turns out, it's definitely happen. Oh, also, it'll tie into the next game. One that hasn't been announced.
As Destructoid points out, Lance Sloane, producer of the aforementioned Legacy web series, recently spoke to GamerHub.TV and made mention of a movie that's currently in the midst of development. Simply fast forward to the 1:07 mark:
Basically, it was green-lit some time ago and there's already a script. Kevin Tancharoen, the man behind Legacy will be directing this one as well, thought the most interesting revelation is buried in all the talk about the business side of things.
It would appear that Warner Bros, who is financing the movie, is mostly interested in when the movie should launch. The aim is to have it coincide with the launch of the new Mortal Kombat game that's in development, one that has yet to be officially announced by NetherRealm Studios.
Perhaps it was a given that there would be a new MK, given that the video game revival was so critically and commercially successful. But still, this is big news.
Though its also worth considering what game it might be. Will it just build on-top of what the last game built, which is unofficially Mortal Kombat 9, or be something totally different? Will it have closer ties to the movie that's being assembled? Given that the two are being assembled basically alongside, it's definitely conceivable.
