Some games work well with a first person perspective. Others, not so much. Ever wonder how well the Sega Genesis classic, Sonic the Hedgehog would fare? Care to take a guess?
Well, now we do, thanks to Filipe B. Costa, who has created a video, based upon a play through of the first Green Hill Zone, but seen from the eyes of Sonic himself.
As you can see, it's fairly disorienting, to put it mildly:
For years, Sega has tried to make a 3D Sonic game and while some have been okay, none have truly clicked like Mario's move to three dimensions. And the above somewhat proves why this is the case.
Granted, the above is not necessarily a fair example since its a first person point of view. But compare and contrast it with the following by Freddie Wong, which is the same idea, just with Super Mario Bros:
True, after playing Mario 64 and similar titles for years, one can't help be a bit biased, but first person Mario is a tad bit more comprehensible than first person Sonic. Agree? Disagree?
