Well-produced, game publisher-supervised developer walkthroughs are fine and all, but I thought it would be just as insightful to get designers, producers, and creative directors in more candid settings.
Such was the case the other week when I asked The Bureau: XCOM Declassified creative director Morgan Gray to act as a backseat driver as I played one of his game's levels with fresh eyes. While this was his opportunity to talk about the game's features, this was also a chance for Morgan to make comments on my tactics and make alternative recommendations in eliminating the alien threat. I invited him to heckle as well, though as it turned out, Morgan Gray's too nice for that. "Mr. Gray" does sound like a 1960's UFO movie character name doesn't it?
