There's a little something for everyone this week as we get a new action-RPG, a big comic book fighting game, an arena shooter, and some new DLC for those of you still playing games released last year. What's wrong with you? Feed the retail monster and buy more new games! On discs!
When's the last time I got my hands on "Injustice?" I think it was SDCC 2012. Sure, the demo is out there, but at this point, my petite has been sufficiently whetted for Netherrealm's DC Comics brawler--I don't want one or two or three characters, I want the whole magilla (or Gorilla Grodd, if you will). .
Title: "Pandora's Tower"
The Wii's last gasp seems indefinite in length, and carries all manner of odd surprises. Take the localization and Western release of the Ganbarion ARPG "Pandora's Tower." Who'da thunk? It's actually kind of a boon for Wii U owners as well, who might feel that console is lacking in any kind of RPG goodness, so this tale of a girl who would be a monster (and they boy who wants to save her) should provide some respite from the occasionally same-y first party game and endless parade of ports.
Title: "God Mode"
Platform(s): Xbox 360
Atlus has two titles out this week and "God Mode" is definitely the unexpected one. "God Mode" hopes to bring back the rapid-fire shooter like "Quake" and its ilk. I can get behind that. The question is whether developer OldSchool games has the design chops to match the tongue-in-cheek marketing that's been the hallmark of "God Mode" so far.
Title: "Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner - Soul Hackers"
More first-person techno RPG horror from Atlus--the "Devil Summoner" series seems to play with sci-fi a little more than the other "SMT" games, and with that comes a sharp, discordant aesthetic from the rest of the JRPG publisher's output. Also: it's got some great music.
DLC and Expansions
Title: "Dishonored: The Knife of Dunwall"
Platform(s): Xbox 360, PS3, PC
Arkane Studios isn't quite done with their stealth action game "Dishonored," offering this story DLC featuring the assassin Daud trying to walk the (often bloody) path redemption after kicking off the whole mess that set Corvo on his killing spree in the first place.
Title: "Call of Duty: Black Ops II - Uprising"
Platform(s): Xbox 360
The latest "Black Ops II" DLC offers up the requisite celebrity-laden zombie-killing party we've all come to know and expect since... the first "Black Ops." Oh, and also some new maps--one of them has hot, molten magma.
Sorry PC and PS3 gamers, but this one is a timed Xbox 360 exclusive--but no stress, it'll be on those platforms soon.
