This latest story trailer sheds light on the battle between the heroes gone dark of Netherrealm's fighter "Injustice: Gods Among Us" as Lex Luthor picks his side in the battle for Earth.
We've had a pretty good sense of the direction of the story of "Injustice," essentially a "Mirror, Mirror" version of the DC Comics universe where the heroes of the Justice League have taken it upon themselves to assume complete control of the world. It's kind of a reverse-riff on Mark Waid's miniseries "Kingdom Come" where the world of superheroes changes dramatically after Lois Lane is killed--in this case, instead of sending Superman into retirement, it makes him go all dark and broody.
We now know that Batman is leading a resistance effort against Superman and the blandly-named "Regime" (really?) and that Lex Luthor is straddling the line between helping the resistance and being at the big table with the League.
That's kind of an odd characterization for Luthor, always written as a massive narcissist--at the end of the trailer, he says that he picks the winning side, but typically, the way he's portrayed, he'll typically designate whatever side he's on as the winning side. It's a small but curious choice by the game's writers, Justin Gray and Jimmy Palmiotti.
"Injustice: Gods Among Us" will be available on April 16 for the Xbox 360 and PS3.
