CD Projekt Red offers a glimpse at the at their open world game set in the universe of the classic RPG, "Cyberpunk 2020."
The CG trailer is our first look at Night City, the setting of "Cyberpunk 2077." Apparently, the city has a "Psycho" problem: humans who've over-augmented their bodies to such an extent that it drives them insane. The problem is apparently so prevalent that the police have set up a Psycho Squad to combat this threat of man-machine hybrids who now see everyone else as simply "meatbags."
Let CD Projekt Red's head Adam Badowski set the stage:
When a psycho goes on the rampage, strange things can happen. There’s going to be a lot of carnage, so the psycho might be taken down by regular police, but they’re not always able to get the job done. When things spin out of control, they call in MAX-TAC (Maximum Force Tactical Division), popularly called the “Psycho Squad”. And these guys are exceptional, these guys are crack troops. The fact that they’re proud of that name tells you a bit about their mindset. They wear a badge with their official emblem on their right sleeve, but their left is reserved for their unofficial Psycho Squad emblem. It’s primitively made and the image itself is on the crude side of things. It’s not unlike a badge special force operators might make and wear to distinguish themselves from the ranks of grunts in any theatre of war.
"Cyberpunk 2077" is currently in development for the PC.
[Update: Over at Rock Paper Shotgun, Nathan Grayson pointed to a Reddit thread which noticed a brief flash of text in the teaser promising some kind of announcement on February 5th. CD Projekt describes this as much closer to being completed than "Cyberpunk 2077" and an open world adventure with an intense story. Could the Polish developer be announcing Geralt's return for another "Witcher?"]
