During a pre-Tokyo Game Show event, Keiji Inafune and Tecmo Koei revealed that the recently-teased Yaiba was actually a Ninja Gaiden joint headed to current gen consoles and possibly the Wii U.
While light on actual details about the gameplay or story, Inafune revealed that players would be taking on the role of Yaiba, a ninja hot on the heels of Ninja Gaiden lead Ryu Hayabusa. Last week, the Mega Man creator and Dead Rising mastermind teased the game as bringing together mechs, zombies, and ninjas which certianly feels like a good fit for the Ninja Gaiden universe. And if the teaser trailer above is any indication, Ninja Gaiden Z will be getting getting manga-style art to go with the new lead character.
The project is a collaboration between Team Ninja, who hope to make Yaiba into a franchise, Inafune's own Compcept which is spearheading the game, and developer Spark Unlimited, the team behind Lost Planet 3 who have been tasked with making sure that Ninja Gaiden Z satisfies both Western and Japanese tastes.
No word on a release date, but a Eurogamer report reveals that Inafune and company are hoping to hit current-gen consoles and perhaps the Wii U.
