After first being introduced to Nintendo's dual-screen Wii U console we figured it was only a matter of time before we saw Nintendo 3DS titles being revived with the HD treatment. A recent interview has revealed that WayForward's Mighty Switch Force! will be the first.
According to the latest issue of Nintendo Power, Mighty Switch Force! HD will be the same game we played on Nintendo 3DS, but overhauled with high resolution graphics that take advantage of the Wii U's HD output. As one of the first downloadable titles available for Wii U, the new game will also come complete with the bonus levels and quick retry option recently introduced for the original 3DS version.
“We've really enjoyed developing for Nintendo's download services and really want to be there for the Wii U launch.” WayForward creative director Matt Bozon told Nintendo Power, “While we do have some brand-new games in the planning phase, remaking Mighty Switch Force! In HD lets us experiment on the new hardware. To transform our beloved pixels into traditional character animation – similar to our A Boy and His Blob remake – we've gone back to the original artists to create new, more-illustrative versions of Patricia Wagon and company.”
Bozon went on to state that Might Switch Force! HD may also contain some new content not seen in the Nintendo 3DS version, but no specifics were given. He also revealed that the tablet-like WiiPad will be used to display the whereabouts of the fugitives you're looking for, just as the 3DS touchscreen does. While playing solely on the WiiPad (without a TV) an onscreen compass will point the way.
