The super powered "Enter the Dominatrix" expansion will just have to be ridiculously over-the-top in the just-announced sequel to Saints Row: The Third.
The expansion, which was going to offer your character superhero-level abilities in the open city of Steelport has been nixed according to an announcement from publisher THQ, and its contents worked into the currently unnamed next Saints Row retail title which we should expect sometime next calendar year.
Here's THQ president Jason Rubin (who recently had to walk back/clarify his assessment of the Saints Row franchise) on the cancellation:
I asked the team what it could achieve given more time, more resources, and a broader scope for the project. We all agreed we wanted to play that game. When it comes to Saints Row, it’s clear our fans want bigger, better, and even more over the top, and that’s why Enter The Dominatrix will now be incorporated into a vastly expanded, full-fledged sequel, scheduled for calendar 2013.
Rubin goes on to describe the next title as a "full-length, high quality, connected experience," that last bit possibly hinting some kind of multiplayer, likely a return of co-op. But could we also see Volition work in the competitive element that was axed from The Third?
We'll have to wait and see as more information about the next entry trickles out.
