THQ boss Brian Farrell said during an investor call that the publisher has backed out of publishing Ninja Gaiden creator Tomonobu Itagaki's next game, Devil's Third, a third-person shooter.
"When we ranked all of our product releases when we underwent our restructuring, the profitability of Devil's Third wasn't comparable with our other franchises," Farrell explained. Devil's Third had undergone a severely costly setback when the company supplying the engine for the game went out of business, forcing Itagaki's Valhalla Game Studios to switch engines midway through development.
This doesn't mean the game's been cancelled, however, as THQ is looking for another publisher to offload the project onto.
Meanwhile, THQ also announced that their upcoming South Park: The Game, an RPG being developed by Fallout: New Vegas developer, Obsidian Entertainment, has been delayed. Originally expected to come out this year, it's been pushed back to the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2013, which in layman's terms is Q1 next year.
Between this, Bioshock Infinite, and Tomb Raider, quarter one of 2013 is looking awful promising, but let's hope there's something left for this year too, eh?
