When Pikmin was rereleased for the Wii over three years ago, we assumed its sequel wouldn't be far behind. We were wrong. While Japan and Europe received Captain Olimar's strategy/adventure with "New Play Control!" (the exclamation point is important!) in the early part of 2009, it remained lost in space for us North Americans. Thankfully, a US release date has finally been announced for New Play Control! Pikmin 2 on June 10th.
Coinciding with Pikmin 2's rerelease, is a port of the Gamecube's Mario Power Tennis to the Wii. Both games will be released as part of the "Nintendo Selects" line at the budget price of $19.99.
In related news, Donkey Kong Country Returns and Super Smash Bros. Brawl will also be joining the budget line, though they'll suspiciously be priced a bit higher at $29.99. I think we could all have used these rereleases and price drops years ago, but they're still better late than never. Plus, an inexpensive Pikmin 2 will likely generate attention towards its Wii U sequel to be unveiled next month at E3.
