Sony smashes all of its mascots together in this SuperBot Entertainment-developed brawler.
"Cool and also kind of weird." That was my editor's reaction this morning when I passed along Sony's announcement of their Super Smash Brothers-style fighting game PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, and he's kind of right—when you think about mascot games, you kind of figure Nintendo has the market cornered on that front. Based on the video preview above, it looks about as much like what you would expect a mashup of that type of game with Sony mascots to look.
So far, the only characters that have been revealed are the Fat Princess, PaRappa the Rapper (both from their eponymous games), Kratos (God of War), and Sweet Tooth (Twisted Metal). We should all probably not be too surprised when Ratchet, Clank, Jak, Daxter, Sly Cooper, maybe one of the Helghast, Drake, or maybe a Chimera make their way into PASBR at some point. While the concept is intriguing, there is a little bit of a disconnect with this style of party-oriented game being populated by Sony's library of characters from occasionally M-rated games.
Sony hasn't revealed a release date, but we should expect to hear more at E3.
