'Choplifter HD' On the Way Next Week

Posted 1/6/12 11:06 am EST by Charles Webb in News, PC, PS3, Release Dates, Xbox 360

You'll be shootin' and rescuin' January 11th on XBLA, PSN, and Games for Windows Live.

I want to play me some Choplifter as much as the next guy, but $14.99, guys? That's how much you're going to be set back for the inExile-developed Choplifter HD (or 1200 Microsoft Points). I guess the pricing is par for the course (this is how much the Bionic Commando games cost, if I recall) but seeing that first thing in the morning is a little mind-blowing. Let me get a cup of coffee first...

Anyway, Choplifter is back, and I can get behind this particular series coming back to consoles from inExile Entertainment, the team behind Hunted: The Demon's Forge and the iOS port of A Bard's Tale. If anything, they know variety. Their task: make sure that liftoff and touchdown as well as getting out of the chopper and running frantically back to it are fun and a little nerve-wracking at the same time. If they nail that, then I've got some time for their Choplift-in' action.

Here's the official synopsis:

In Choplifter HD, players take control of a variety of helicopters armed with a number of offensive capabilities so they can swoop in and make daring rescues in hot zones. The game features more than 30 missions ranging from straight prisoner extraction to dropping off saboteurs that blow buildings sky high to saving survivors from viral outbreaks. Pilots must bank, hover, touchdown, and sometimes even shake loose pesky zombies hanging from their choppers. Gamers can also look forward to a few cameos from some of the videogame industry's most legendary leading men including Duke Nukem and Super Meat Boy. Choplifter HD combines intense action, humor and tons of variety, creating developer inXile Entertainment's own, fresh take on the original Choplifter experience. Choplifter HD is rated T for Teen by the ESRB and dares players to risk their lives in order to save others starting today.
