Sega’s new year's resolution is going to please all of the Sonic the Hedgehog fans out there. It appears the speedy fur ball will be returning to our Xbox 360, PS3 and mobile devices sometime this year in Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode II. And, all the complaining we did about the physics in Episode I may have paid off.
According to Sega's press release the game will feature “all-new character animations and a completely reworked physics engine” which is great because a lot of gamers (myself included) were frustrated by the overall feel of Sonic in Episode I. Hopefully, the new approach and the return of Metal Sonic (did I forget to mention that?) will make up for it.
"After twenty years in action, it’s clear that Sonic hasn’t slowed down one bit," said Haruki Satomi, Senior Vice President of Digital Business at SEGA of America. "The first entry in the Sonic 4 saga was a major success. We’ve listened to the fans and been hard at work making sure we recapture that same spirit of fun in Episode II. We hope the fans will enjoy it."
Also highlighting the announcement was a certain twin-tailed sidekick, but we're not quite sure how exciting that's going to be. As many of you remember Tails wasn't that helpful (in Sonic 2 & 3) and more often than not he just got left behind. Even when someone took control of him with the second controller his performance was less than thrilling and all we really want is a little co-op action.
If you want to see how dedicated the folks behind Episode II are I suggest you go watch Gamespot's interview with Sega digital brand manager Ken Balough – his beard says it all.
Here's the teaser trailer...
